Rangers & Gretna

Rangers are flying the flag for Scotland tonight, they are 2-0 up against Werder Bremen going into the second leg in Germany. But alas, I have a feeling they will crash out, ending Scotland's involvement in Europe for anouther season.
Bolton are also in action tonight, and they might just battle through to the QF, although it will be tough.

And sticking with Scotland if I may, wee Gretna are facing closure today unless the can find £30,000 for this weekend's trip to Aberdeen.:(
The SPL will try everything they ca to keep them afloat until the end of the season, because if the can't fufill their fixtures, then all their previous results will be void, throwing the title race/UEFA cup race/ and Top 6 race all into confusuion.
Nobody wants to see them go under, as it means players & staff will all lose their jobs, and the community will lose their team. But really, the SPL & Gretna should never have accepted promotion to the top division. They have a fanbase of around 1000 at best, and are be forced to play all this seasons games at Fir Park in Motherwell at huge expense, and try and build a SPL level stadium for next season, while paying a squad at SPL wages!:wtf: It was clearly suicide, but they let their hearts rule their heads, and are now at deaths door.:(
I hope they pull through, and find their correct level-around Div 2-Div 3. But at least it removes the lingering threat of relegation from my Killie. Although it could mean if Gretna do go under, that their last win would be the 4-2 thrashing the gave to my beloved Kilmarnock. BASTARDS!;)

Everton were great last night and totally outclassed there Italian opponents and should of gone through but thats a shootout for ya, English never win.

The draw:

Champions League quarter-final draw:
Arsenal v Liverpool
Roma v Manchester United
Schalke v Barcelona
Fenerbahce v Chelsea

Champions League semi-final draw:

Arsenal or Liverpool v Fenerbahce or Chelsea
Schalke or Barcelona v Roma or Manchester United

Shame that Arsenal and Liverpool were drawn together. For me, that would probably make for the best final. Still, we could get another Liverpool Vs Chelsea SF. Unless Fenerbahce can pull of a surprise or two it's looking highly likely that we'll have an English team in the final again.

Man Utd must fancy their chances of making the SFs with a tie against Roma. Whilst they've looked better than they were last season I can't see them upsetting Man Utd.

Barcelona, you would expect to despatch Schalke, but you never know with Barce.

Looking forward to the Roma/United tie. Roma is certainly very good this year but United is on another level. C. Ronaldo is playing out of this world and Tevez has injected a burst of energy into United as he is the South American version of Rooney. Ferdinand has evolved into arguably the top CB in the world and with Vidic being the perfect guts'n grit partner for him, the United defense has looked as good as Mourinho's Chelsea or Capello's Milan. But of course I will be rooting for AS Roma. I also expect Arsenal to dump Liverpool out of Europe so any insomniac will have to wait for another year for their annual cure.

I want a Barca/Arsenal final for that would be most entertaining match for various reasons. If that should happen the last four Champions league finals would look like this:

2004-05 Liverpool vs Milan
2005-06 Barcelona vs Arsenal
2006-07 Liverpool vs Milan
2007-08 Barcelona vs Arsenal.
