Rangers & Gretna
Rangers are flying the flag for Scotland tonight, they are 2-0 up against Werder Bremen going into the second leg in Germany. But alas, I have a feeling they will crash out, ending Scotland's involvement in Europe for anouther season.
Bolton are also in action tonight, and they might just battle through to the QF, although it will be tough.
And sticking with Scotland if I may, wee Gretna are facing closure today unless the can find £30,000 for this weekend's trip to Aberdeen.
The SPL will try everything they ca to keep them afloat until the end of the season, because if the can't fufill their fixtures, then all their previous results will be void, throwing the title race/UEFA cup race/ and Top 6 race all into confusuion.
Nobody wants to see them go under, as it means players & staff will all lose their jobs, and the community will lose their team. But really, the SPL & Gretna should never have accepted promotion to the top division. They have a fanbase of around 1000 at best, and are be forced to play all this seasons games at Fir Park in Motherwell at huge expense, and try and build a SPL level stadium for next season, while paying a squad at SPL wages!
It was clearly suicide, but they let their hearts rule their heads, and are now at deaths door.
I hope they pull through, and find their correct level-around Div 2-Div 3. But at least it removes the lingering threat of relegation from my Killie. Although it could mean if Gretna do go under, that their last win would be the 4-2 thrashing the gave to my beloved Kilmarnock. BASTARDS!
