90% dislike. Extremely derivative. Majorly unoriginal. Nothing but clichés. Typical of everythng Syfy has ever done. Ever.

Still waiting for the upcoming episodes to see if it´s worth watching. At the moment it´s just too much "more of the same".
The pilot was just a copy of stuff from the first Atlantis season, only on a ship and this time without any noteworthy story.

I'm about 50/50 so far on Universe. Some things i like (Eli, the setting, taking a break from solving the problem in 45 mins), others i really dislike (imitating the pointless Grimdark of Battlestar Galactica, random sex scenes). I'll decide after i see Air Part 3

Dislike. No, no. Loathe with the fiery intensity of a billion supernovas, now about that? :rommie:

Granted I haven't even bothered to watch the second half but the first half has given me no motive to do so. Maybe I'll drag myself thru it later today...

Temis not liking a Stargate series, how shocking

There was ONE sex scene. And it's obviously setting up some future conflict with Chloe and that sgt.

More of a conflict between the (wasn't he actually a LT?) and the girl. Then, there's the LT/Chloe/Eli angle.

Basically, your typical human relationship clusterfuck.

People comparing this to NuBSG are confused if you ask me. I think the similarity is simply that we have a show, set in space which is on the darker side of things compared to a lot of sci-fi we grew up with. Darkish sci-fi in space does not = nuBSG, and in this case does not come close.

What gave BSG its feel was the characters. Most of the cast brought a very unique personality to the table, whether you liked them or not. It doesn't seem that SGU has had the time to get the flavor of the characters yet. And you do not have the same apocalyptic feeling hanging in the background even though these particular characters have been separated from earth. What ever the similarities are, they are rather superficial.

Will SGU be a good show? It could be. I liked the first two episodes, but they were not ground breaking. I have a feeling it will be a show I enjoy each week, but not one I put on a top ten list.

I like SGU alot. Rush and Eli will probably have me tuning in every week, and I love the design of the Destiny. The production design was nice--not too flashy, but just right. The O'Neill, Carter, and Jackson cameos were fun, and the F/X throughout both hours were really excellent. I've never understood why people say that SG shows have inferior F/X to Trek shows. <shrug>

And am I mistaken, or was that the first "humping" scene in a Stargate ep.? I recall steamy scenes on Stargate, but not ones in which the pair are actually thrusting.

It was ok for what it was. I never have high expectations when I watch any Stargate show and I never make the mistake of comparing it with superior products like BSG or Farscape, but for a Stargate series that's trying to reinvent it's self a little more in the image of NuBSG, I thought it was competent.

As such, I voted that I liked it.

I liked it more than I expected. It definitely had a stargate feel whilst having a different energy to it.

The thing is that the three part pilot is literally just setting up the premise of the show. Where's the actual story? Its poseidon in space. Not very original and loosely the same as Atlantis pilot. The destiny is one of the worst ship designs I've ever seen.

I didn't even understand what the backstory was with the medic. The story flashed back and forth too quickly. I couldn't even understand som of the american accents and had to turn on the subtitles.

It was fun to watch despite these little nitpicks. Part one and 2 should have aired as one entire episode. This would have made more sense as the cliff hanger for part 2 was true stargate.

Really liked it!

But then, I haven't been soured by fourteen seasons of SG before this!

I love the sense of desperation and hopelessness at being SO far away from home and having NO control of where you're going or what happens. SO glad Tasha Yar's bf killed himself in the pilot - he would have been BEYOND intolerable with his holier than thou attitude. His death was pretty predictable but I am still glad he went.

Production design was above what I expected and the show has a grittier feel than I thought it would.

One thing bothered me - when did Earth get giant warships and get "beaming" technology. If we have all of this, why is Earth still like 1990s Earth?

SG is starting to feel a little bit like ST now.

Well, for that answer, you'd have to watch 14 season of SG.

The first ship, Prometheus, was built during s6 of SG1. Beaming technology was giving to them by the Asgard later and incorporated into the 2nd ship, Daedalus. The Asgard then decided to end their lives at then end of s10, and left them a repository of all their knowledge.

The IOA-International Oversight Advisory, made up of nations who have been made aware of the Stargate program, decided in order to prevent squabbling-and war, over the gate and advanced alien technology, that all alien tech could only be used by the SGC in defense of Earth.

Cool -that makes sense!

Thanks for that!

It was kinda weird anyway to suddenly see Samantha Carter(whom I know more as the chick from "Sanctuary")suddenly turn up. But then she is all like, "ARM PHOTONS AND BEAM SHIT UP!!!!!" or whatever.

I was like..........."I thought this was friggin Stargate, not AbramsTrek!!!!"

So far, I like it. Interesting enough premise, with a little bit "trying to get home", little bit "exploring", and plenty of "figure out what the hell is going on - mystery"

We'll see how the characters do, it's early yet.

Along those same lines, really want to see part 3 of the pilot before we go too far with discussing the premise. Let's see how the planet/resource gathering trip goes...
