You'd have to do the hair differently... but other than that... Spader DOES have sufficiently "Vulcan-like" features and his on-screen persona, as I've seen it, would fit this quite well... cold on the outside but obviously a lotta stuff going on underneath.

I agree. He doesn't sound like Mark Lenard, but he does have an authoritative presence, a Vulcan-like manner, and very precise elocution. I think it could work pretty well.

Kristin Bell as Carol Marcus -- A total self-absorbed bitch that everyone seems to love for no logical reason, especially Jim Kirk. Has to date crashed 28 shuttlepods.

Shane West as Khan Noonien Singh -- Struggling to get out of his father's shadow, he masterminds operations from his laptop computer when he's all by himself in his family mansion. One project: to find out what Spock's secrets are. Is also in love with Carol Marcus. Shows no signs of injury from his 36 concussions and 41 attempts on his life.

Greg Vaughan as Will Decker -- Carol Marcus' boyfriend and captain of the Parrises squares team. Doesn't really do anything other than to provide Jim Kirk with angst.

Eliza Dushku as Saavik -- Jim Kirk's faithful sidekick that helps him in his adventures with her amazing computer skills. Is secretly in love with him and his perfect for him, but he doesn't notice her because he's too busy pining away for Carol Marcus. Doesn't yet know that she has super Vulcan powers.

Anton Yelchin as Pavel Chekov -- Born in Russia, a stellar cartographer who thinks he's better than he actually is because he spends more time being jealous of Jim Kirk and thinking about 20th century movies. Is completely out of Saavik's league, but ends up becoming her boyfriend anyway because she's that desperate.

John Glover as James Khan Singh

With Annette O'Toole as Winona Kirk

And John Schneider as George Kirk

I demand that Captain Kirk be played by an actor. I will not tolerate any neorealist stunt casting that gives the role to an actual starship captain (or closest equivalent thereto - astronaut, perhaps?)

If the new Captain Kirk is not a credited performer with one or more plays/movies/TV-shows/matinees/children's birthdays/puppet shows under his belt, I will boycott this movie by only seeing it three times in the cinema, and only buying one DVD. No additional revenue from special editions, no, not for a non-actor.

Yes, but AFAIK, it's never been canon. I've always liked it though. George and Winona. Sam and Jim. always had a nice family type ring to the bunch of them.

Unless Star Trek is filming in B.C., you'll never get Jensen Ackles because of his TV schedule. This wouldn't be like George Clooney doing ER on one set then hopping over the another set on the same lot to do his movies.

^ Hall plays the title role in Dexter and was the younger brother, David Fisher, in Six Feet Under. Could have been a good enough choice a few years ago or for a 30-something Kirk, but he's older than what they seem to be looking for.
