So what's up with the trailer Enterprise proportions?

Heres a quick 3d Mesh ive knocked up to ROUGHLY represent propotions. Everything here has been eyeballed so nothing is entirely accurate. Ive based the secondary hull on what's been said about it (larger cutout etc).

And some folks consider this "minor tweaking."

And some folks are waiting to see the actual ship, not a very conjectural mockup based on a single view, before passing judgment

Hey, remember when we were predicting vectoring nacelles and rocket boosters and all sorts of crazy other crap? Just be glad that the biggest change is that the nacelles got some steroids.

Hey, me again. Ive gone back and shrunk the nacelle size down a tad, now, it doesn't look AS much as it does in the trailer - but as many of you have pointed out, weve only seen the one angle, so, judging on wacky camera perspectives and incorrect "Work in progess" placement, heres a second revision.

And finally, for all you "NACELLES. TOO BIG. BOYCOTT!" people, heres a render taken at quite a few "steps" back, I know it sounds silly, but when looking at it from a further vantage point, I believe it to look a lot more pleasing to the eye :)

That's some cool work, Dak. You're right, it doesn't look that bad. Personally, I wouldn't have made them that thick, but the original nacelles are very long, so they could get away with beefing them up a bit. Say 110%-120%?

This is their idea of kewl, but my idea of just silly and inconsistant. Well, it could be worse, but I hope it isn't.

It's like having a human body with big, out of proportion, hands...

Which, interestingly enough, describes a lot of popular film and TV actors. I think it was Gore Vidal who once described them, with his customary politically correct sensitivity, as "midgets with giant heads."

Well, except for the midget part, that describes me pretty well.

With the model you have, can you please put a virtual camera where the "real" camera in the trailer was, and adjust the "virtual focal length" to get as close as possible to the "real" image?

That's the best way to be SURE that what you've put together is similar to what we're being shown on-screen.

Something that could go a long way toward evening out the proportions is increasing the diameter of the primary hull. We really can’t tell from any of the teaser shots how big that diameter is. Most of the size estimates for the nacelles are based on their visual relationship to the bridge module, but there are hints from the toy fair people that the saucer is bigger and possibly flatter. I’m working to incorporate that into my own speculative model but I just haven’t had much time to work on it. Hopefully by the weekend.
