Glad I was rescued from the east coast (Upstate NY) in '99. WAAAAAY too cold for a California Boy! Heard stories the locals told of snow upwards of 6 ft deep, knee deep to a 6th grader was a MILD winter!

Out here, we just might break the drought and fill the reservoirs, if dumb government doesn't keep letting the water out.

The roads around here are actually better than they were the day after the December storm. And my apartment complex is *much* better. I think someone sent the Fairfax road crews up to Vermont for lessons or something after the last one....

I actually did go into work today since it's right around the corner, but a bunch of people weren't there whom I needed to talk to in order to get anything done, so I went home a bit early.

According to a friend of mine, there are some federal workers who will still be expected to put in hours by teleworking from home.

Loudon County, VA schools closed for Monday and Tuesday on Saturday. Then, they announced they were closed for the rest of the week Monday around noon. Just gave up.

This winter is astounding for snowfall, but in 1995-96 I spent a winter in Iowa teaching at a rural college where we had almost two weeks of below zero weather, wind, and enough snow (about 10 inches) to make it annoying. It was never above zero during the day, and in the minus 20s at night. Windchills were in the minus 30s and colder. And the college never closed. My car wouldn't start early one morning, so I had to walk a mile to campus in minus 15 weather to teach my classes. Even the public schools in the area stayed open.

It's nothing like what hit us over Christmas. We got 3 feet in two days, and because it was Christmas no one was going to bother trying to clear anything.

It was the most mind numbing holiday weekend I ever spent. Just my husband, puppy and I trapped together in our house slowly driving each other mad.

Thank God the plows finally came out on Monday or I'm sure one of us would have finally snapped and killed the rest.

Where exactly do you all live, blab? You must be closer to Omaha than I realized.

I remember Christmas Day well. The only time I wasn't shoveling snow was in the morning, when I was stumbling down Center Street trying to get to Walgreens which was the only store that was open (it being Christmas and all) because I had nothing to EAT.

I live in the Capitol City (so everyone who doesn't know geography can just assume that's Omaha), which isn't bad unless it's the fall then forget going anywhere Saturday.

We still have huge potholes from the Christmas storm the city hasn't bothered with.

No, actually, the rear-end of the car is exposed from under the deck. The front-end subframe has been off for some time - the weight of the snow on only the trunk area actually pushed the car back, without any counterbalance. Originally I thought it might have fallen off the jack-stands completely, but it was relatively easy to get it back down on all fours.

We had 24 inches of snow in my part of Loudoun county, VA. It snowed pretty heavily until around 4 PM, when it stopped suddenly like someone had turned off a tap. Five minutes later the sun was out and it started clearing off. By 5:00, the skies were almost clear.
I lived the first 25 years of my life in Iowa, and the worst snowstorms I've ever seen have been out here in the DC area. Go figure.

Yup! And from what I understand, we're about to get kicked in the balls again for another 10-20 inches starting in a few hours.

SO glad I got that snow blower when I did. I think the shoveling would have killed me, or at least sent me to the hospital. Be safe out there!

Thank God for snow blowers. I went to Home Depot the day before the December 19 storm and bought one as an early Christmas present to myself.
When I used it for the December 19 storm, I thought, "Well that's it," and stored it in the back of the garage. Little did I know. That thing is my best friend, now.

Damn 137th, I was about to go into this thread all superior about how Americans can't handle a little snow, but got kind stopped in my tracks when I read that your Camaro was affected. It's okay? No major damage?

Nope, no damage, thanks for asking.

It's been covered up for several months, and I'm going to get it sand-blasted in any case. A little snow is nothing compared to the cancerous rust that's eaten away at it for the past 30+ years.

My brain was just not prepared to process the image my eyes were trying to convey with the body tilted back at a 45 degree angle. I went briefly into panic mode initially, but after assessing the situation, it really wasn't too bad. My greatest fear was having the whole thing slip off the jack-stands and knock out the far supporting post that's holding up my deck. Fortunately, nothing like that happened. and I have cinder blocks and bricks holding down the front-end now. Should be okay, but the weatherman is now predicting an additional 10-20 inches tonight and tomorrow. Quite a nice little kick in the balls after what we've had to deal with the past 4 days, but not insurmountable.

Good to hear. Even though the 79 wasn't all that powerful to begin with it's still a Camaro, and nothing bad should ever happen to them. Good luck with the project, keep us posted!
