So, what was the blizzard of 2010 like, granpa?

Well, lemme tell ya...

This is my '79 Camaro that I've been slowly trying to work on the past couple of years. It actually looks a lot worse than it really was. It was balanced perfectly on the rear jack-stands. Didn't take much to clean it off and get it back on all fours. Was quite a sight to see waking up Saturday morning, though.

Oh, it's tipped backwards. That took me a minute to work out what I was seeing.

Yeah, I need to go shovel out my car again. Fortunately, the road services appear to have learned something from the December storm.

They were expecting a lot of snow for us on Long Island and we got nothing. Looks like we were pretty lucky.

It looks like it was under cover. Did the wind do that?

We had 24 inches of snow in my part of Loudoun county, VA. It snowed pretty heavily until around 4 PM, when it stopped suddenly like someone had turned off a tap. Five minutes later the sun was out and it started clearing off. By 5:00, the skies were almost clear.
I lived the first 25 years of my life in Iowa, and the worst snowstorms I've ever seen have been out here in the DC area. Go figure.

In the Saskatoon Blizzard of 07 (worst they've had in 50 years, our first full winter in the city) the police were out pushing cars up the off ramps of the one bridge they kept open across the river. Now, that was scary.

I think the snow total in my area is at roughly the 30-inch mark. Took two hours to dig the car out. I have no idea what the road conditions are like. My employer sent out an email informing everyone that the business would be open tomorrow, but they are given all MD and VA-based employees an extra "balance day" (read: personal day) that they can use tomorrow if they're unable to get in. Unfortunately, I'm one of those considered "essential" so I don't think there's a chance in hell of me taking the day off.

Total snow in Arlington, VA: 20 inches.

And my car yesterday as the snow was winding down:

In short, the Blizzard of 2010 was just like the Blizzard of 2009, except a couple of months later.

Well, even if I get my cars cleared out tomorrow there's no way I'm getting out of the neighborhood. I'm taking the day off work but I have a dentist appointment. I'll probably walk, it's only a mile.

This is worse than the one in December. They could at least plow the roads that time. That second shot is our street that WAS plowed 2 or 3 times. There's still no way to get down there unless you have the largest of the SUVs.

In December (and last weekend), they were plowing constantly my complex in Arlington to at least try to keep the roads clear.

This time...nope. They knew resistance was futile.

This was much worse than the December snow for me. At least 24" and gorgeous, but my front porch roof partially collapsed. The NWS is predicting another 10 - 20 inches tomorrow and Wednesday, so I guess it's going to totally collapse. :( Thank God for homeowners insurance.

I want to move somewhere warm and sunny. You know... Colorado, North Dakota, Canada...

Went 4-wheeling (Rzrs and quads) in 16 inches of snow, broke down 30 miles in the woods.... it was AWESOME!!!

It's nothing like what hit us over Christmas. We got 3 feet in two days, and because it was Christmas no one was going to bother trying to clear anything.

It was the most mind numbing holiday weekend I ever spent. Just my husband, puppy and I trapped together in our house slowly driving each other mad.

Thank God the plows finally came out on Monday or I'm sure one of us would have finally snapped and killed the rest.

Where exactly do you all live, blab? You must be closer to Omaha than I realized. :p

I remember Christmas Day well. The only time I wasn't shoveling snow was in the morning, when I was stumbling down Center Street trying to get to Walgreens which was the only store that was open (it being Christmas and all) because I had nothing to EAT. :(

Staying trapped in the house weekend makes balblover a dull woman.
