With the news that JJ Abrams is going to direct Episode VII, what do you think is going to happen for Trek's fiftieth?

A new television show?

Another movie?

A concert kind of like the Dr. Who Proms?

Something else?

Some kind of dvd/blu-ray boxset thing and maybe Star Trek 3.

Plus a Paramount sponsored orgy at the 2016 Comic-Con hosted by Malcolm Mcdowell . Everyone will get some. The wait is over.

I'm not sure what will be done, but I'm sure there will be the usual propaganda. Roddenberry will be spoken of as if he were a diety. Words like "visionary," "optimistic," "messages," "intelligent," "before its time," "morality play," will be thrown around. Nichols will retell her Martin Luther King, Jr. story to anyone who will listen. All the living actors will remind everyone how important Trek was.

J.J. Abrams will take time from the set of directing "Star Wars" to tape a message thanking Paramount for giving him the opportunity to reignite Trek, and wish it well as he moves on with "Star Wars" as Disney changes its mind and offers him control of all three movies.

Seriously --
What would be really neat is if some theater chain worked out a deal with Paramount to re-release some of the more popular movies and TV episodes on the big screen for limited engagements over a period of time. Even if it meant midnight viewings.

It'd be fun to see TWOK on the big screen, again. And, it would be a first for a lot of fans.

A lot of merchandise and some DVD projects.

I never expected Paramount to produce a movie to coincide with it and I certainly don't now.

They could certainly get one out in 2016 if they were determined to, but I'd expect the next one in 2017.

If Paramount wants ST to Live Long and Propher, to compete with Disney's new Star Wars.... Paramount needs to get a TV show going... even an animated to bring in the next genneration young parents with 5 yr olds to, of course to get Paramount to do a TV show about Roddneberry's view of morility over profit , wait did I just say that.

Rittenhouse will release a 50th Anniversary Trading Card Set.
Auto Cards will be in gold ink.

Finally past Doctors and Companions will appear in a special episode.
WHOOPS! Wrong show!

Hopefully at the very least we'll get the third film with the current cast in the 50th anniversary year with maybe some nods to the past like how Skyfall marked the 50th anniversary of the James Bond film franchise.

  1. If Abrams is out as far as directing another Trek film, I think the odds are good for Star Trek XIII to be out by 2016.
  2. A ton of 50th anniversary merchandise.
  3. In a best-case scenario, an announcement by CBS of a new Star Trek TV series of some kind that will debut somewhere in 2017.

A massive franchise criss-crossing TV mini-series featuring 22nd, 23rd and 24th Century characters.

That would probably have to focus on a long lived alien, friend or foe.... born, coming of age and old between the three centuries.

I dunno. Paramount seems to hot on re-booting everything but not creating anything new. I imagine it will be the same old stuff that they think we're stupid enough to re-buy because it says "Special 50th Anniversary Edition.":sigh:
