So what are you reading? Part VI

First book of his I read was Subterranean, then jumped to Map of Bones.

I read Subterranean last month and didn't really enjoy it that much. It seemed like there were some cool ideas, but after the first 50 pages or so, I was just laughing at it...

On another note, I've been disappointed with the Typhon Pact books too. Everything after Destiny has pretty much bored me to tears. Can't win them all, I guess.

Currently reading Black Order by James Rollins. Just love his books. First book of his I read was Subterranean, then jumped to Map of Bones. I love his stuff because its a cross between National Treasure/Indiana Jones, but still he keeps everything fresh and unique at the same time.
After i get through his books, i'm gonna start the Reacher books by Lee child even though i'll be reading them way out of order. I read the first chapter of The Affair and really enjoyed it.
I'm a huge fan of the Sigma Force book, and I like the National Treasure/Indian Jones comparison you use for them. I also tend to think of them as a of The Unit/Bond/Indiana Jones combination.

I am trying to get through a Leslie Charteris short story with the The Saint...."The Invisible Millionaire."

It was moving quite well, but slowed down.

Once my brain gets a rest, I will continue with it....

Just finished the latest Vanguard and now starting in on Watching the Clock. Not a big fan of time travel but I generally like CLB's work so we'll see how it goes.

Read the short story Lefler's Log out of the No Limits anthology, finished Carnival of Souls a much better book by Nancy Holder than her Queen of the Slayers.

Trying to decide which road to take...
I have book 1 and 2 of the Mission Gamma and Im buying book 3 and 4 friday so i could go ahead and dive into that....
I also have Timothy Zahn's Choices of One that Ive been meaning to read.
aaand I have a couple more Buffy books, a Supernatural novel and of course Soul of the Fire, the Richard/Kahlen novel giving me the hard stare from my dresser.

hmmmm choices choices.....

I'm about to read all the TNG books in chronological order. I do this every six months or so. Usually takes me a day or so to burn through a book. They were usually around 250 or so pages.

I'm only now starting to read the Star Trek: Titan series and am reviewing it on my blog as I go along. It's a big journey for me because I'm only now getting into the Star Trek EU.

I recently finished 'The First Heretic', book 14 in the Horus Heresy series. I have now started a rather difficult book called 'We Need to Talk about Kevin', which is about a mother trying to cope with the fact that her son has gone on a Columbine-like gun rampage. It is a great book but (natch) extremely depressing, I'm having some trouble dealing with it. I'm about halfway through, has anyone else read it?

I read it a while ago - I remember feeling somewhat drained after reading a chunk of it. I also think it had a sequel or follow up book.

Just finished A Clash of Kings, book two of A Song of Ice and Fire. Loved it!

I've also just written a very short review of John M. Ford's The Final Reflection (link in my sig). Nothing groundbreaking about what I wrote, just an urging for people who haven't read it to do so. It was very excellent, truly one of the pinnacles of Trek lit.

Beneath the Dark Ice by Greg Beick
When a plane crashes into the Antarctic ice, exposing an enormous cave system, a rescue and research team is dispatched. Twenty-four hours later, all contact is lost.
Captain Alex Hunter and his highly trained commandos, along with a team of scientists, are fast tracked to the hot zone to find out what went wrong. Meanwhile, the alluring petrobiologist Aimee Weir is sent to follow up on the detection of a vast underground reservoir. If the unidentified substance proves to be oil, every country in the world will want to know about it—even wage war over it. Or worse.

Once suspended into the caves, Alex, Aimee, and the others can’t locate a single survivor—or even a trace of their remains. Nor is there a energy source, only specters of the dead haunting the tunnels. But soon they will discover that something very much alive is brewing beneath the surface. It is a force that dates back to the very dawn of time—an ancient terror that hunts and kills to survive…

I don't expect much but a quick, fun read out of this one. I've been trying to get into more mainstream action/adventure stuff hoping I'll find an author I really like.

Book 3 and 4 of DS9 Mission Gamma are on their way and Im about 60 pages into Book 1. So far Ive enjoyed it though DRG3 tends to take tangents with characters from his story that fill up 4 or 5 pages, kind of distracting...

I also read another of the shorts in New Frontier No Limits.

I am about 2/3 of the way through Vanguard: What Judgments come. After that I plan to read a Sherlock Holmes novel, and then I think I will read Dan Simmons' The Fall of Hyperion, I am reluctant to read it as I doubt it will reach the heights of Hyperion

It's been ages since I posted in this thread. A quick update:

Best Destiny (good, then dull, then okay)
The Devil's Heart (loved it)
Paths of Disharmony (disappointing, bland, endless repetitive combat)
Rough Beasts of Empire (loved it)
DTI: Watching the Clock (loved it)
New Frontier: Fire on High (enjoyed, but why didn't they eject the warp core?)

Now reading: Double Helix #1: Infection. Must be written by someone who hates Beverly as much as I do. She's an arrogant, incompetent, fool. Dr. Tang tells her to read his notes... twice... and she still doesn't. Because she knows better. She refuses to believe what he repeatedly tries to warn her about. "No, that's impossible," biscuit-head Beverly says. OMG frustrating:brickwall:

I didn't like Double Helix. Tbh, I didn't really like any of the early linked series.

Reading Immortal Coil now. Promising so far...

currently reading:

a game of thrones by george r r martin
the vampire lestat by anne rice
star trek enterprise rosetta by dave stren
night shift by stephen king

Finished the latest Vanguard novel (only one more? aw...) and now reading Dan Abnett's The Silent Stars Go By, the big new Doctor Who event novel like last year's The Coming of the Terraphiles by Michael Moorcock. Except it's not very big and it's not nearly as much of an event, though Abnett had the advantage of actually seeing the cast play the characters. Could have been another NSA, from what I've read so far.

Finished Gods of Night today. Very good so far. Moving right into Mere Mortals and wishing I could do nothing but read all day.
