So what are you reading? Part VI

I recently finished Dan Brown's Angels and Demons (not pleasant) and David Liss' The Ethical Assassin, which is one of the most fascinating novels I've read in recent years.

I finished DTI: Watching the Clock yesterday. It's one of the best Trek novels I've read in quite a while. There were some parts that were confusing and most of the science went over my head, but overall it's an amazing read. It seems that every novel Christopher writes is better than his last.

I read Sherlock Holmes - The Problem of Thor Bridge last night, and started on Percy Jackson: The Sea of Monsters today.

Started in on "Burning Dreams" yesterday (the Pike "biography"). So far, pretty decent, and I like how she's tied in (or tried to at least) many of Pike's novel appearances over the years.

Sitting on the "to read" pile are: DTI, Indistinguishable, and "You Couldn't Ignore me if you Tried", a "biography" of the Brat Pack with lots of behind the scenes stuff on the classic John Hughes movies, Say Anything, and St Elmo's Fire.

currently reading typhon pact and then onto IFM and the dti:wtc. now I have stiil got to do a little more back reading for the tng and I need to know if this is the right reading order for them:

Do comets dream?
the genisis series < if spelled wrong let me know
slings and arrows
and finally
a time to series and then nemeisis and to the titan books.

"genisis" is Genesis. And "nemeisis" is Nemesis. Personally, I'm fond of the rhyme. :)

I finished Robinson Crusoe last night. It wasn't bad, but I think Defoe botched the ending--not in what happened necessarily, but in how it was written. It's at least 30 pages longer than it should be.

I picked up The Science Fiction Hall of Fame, Vol. 1 from the library. I've read a couple of the stories in it before. Hopefully I'll be able to get to it soon.

but is that the correct reading order for those books?

If you're reading them in chronological order, I think Slings and Arrows should go between Do Comets Dream? and the Genesis Wave series. I haven't read Slings and Arrows so I could be wrong but from what I've read about it I think I've got the correct placement.

For what it's worth, I would also recommend skipping Do Comets Dream?

Slings and Arrows is a series of six novellas spanning the year or so between the launch of the Enterprise-E and First Contact. So it spans a period from 2372-73. Do Comets Dream? is an Enterprise-D story, so it's sometime before that. And The Genesis Wave is post-Dominion War, in 2376.

cool thanks for that. tng summer reading is going to be fun.
:drool::drool::drool::drool:

I picked up do comets dream today for my nook.
and all so ds9 I picked up what you leave behind the season 7 season ending.

Finished DTI Watching The Clock and I am about 165 pages into Children of the Storm. DTI was amazing and COTS is very good so far!

I got a similar question to that above. I finished reading "Watching the Clock" by CLB which is currently above 60% outstanding. I have now read 19 ST novels so far this year. Currently reading "The Klingon Gambit" by Robert E. Vardeman (TOS #3) as part of covering earlier books.

As for non-fiction, I am still reading Nazi history (5 books intended and this is the 3rd) which is "The Nazi Dictatorship" (4th ed.) by Ian Kershaw. And, "The Pursuit of Unhappiness" by Daniel M. Haybron (a philosophical treatment of happiness).

While going for groceries today, I came back with four books from the bookstore:
"Seize the Fire" by Michael A. Martin
"Zero Sum Game" by David Mack
"Rough Beasts of Empire" by David R. George, III
"Paths of Disharmony" by Dayton Ward
Have I got enough to start the series or are some missing yet?

you have all the typhon pact novels my friend. I did some diging and you read them like this:

zero sum game is a ds9 novel
seize the fire is a titan novel
rough beast of empire is a ds9/tos novel
paths of disharmony is a tng novel

then you go onto IFM and DTI:WTC enjoy I know I will loved zero sum game.
I was surprised that there was no voyager in this.

In Typhon Pact? I think you're the only one. I don't think I'm the only one who would have been pissed if they pulled Voyager out of the DQ to take part in a miniseries that had absolutely nothing to do with them.

I just finished Kirsten's amazing 3rd VOY-R novel, Children of The Storm, and am now starting Christopher's DTI book. After Indistinguishable from Magic, and CotS, it seems like trek-lit is on an awesome role of late :techman:

Finished both Doctor Who: The Way through the Woods by Una McCormack (paper book) and Corps of Engineers: Turn the Page by Dayton Ward & Kevin Dilmore (Kindle) in the interim.

Next up will be Voyager: Children of the Storm by Kirsten Beyer (Kindle).

Reading 'Rendevous with Rama' by Arthur C. Clarke....as well as 'Coming of Age in Mississippi' by Ann Moody.

starting star trek typhon pact: seize the fire today looking forward to this one I like the gorn. there was a graphic novel a while back called the gorn crisis which was awesome. the gorn are so under used. loved the zero sum game fantastic ending.
