So what are you reading? Part VI

Finished Immortal Coil by Jeffrey Lang and somewhat disappointed. It started off pretty well and looked like it was going to be a cross between a locked room mystery and a deep time conspiracy (a bit like the Dawn War in Revelation Space universe).

In some ways it was both, but the locked room was fairly soon explained and the background conspiracy came off as a little superficial, turning into a pretty run of the mill Trek space-chase romp.

I was hoping for more depth, especially re Data's backstory and a more 'hard' sci-fi approach. I'd really like to have seen what Christopher would have done with this premise as this seemed a wasted opportunity. It was not a bad book, but only a 3 out of 5.

Anyone have any thoughts on the end (epilogues) and the location of the other Soong androids and if it fits into current continuity ?

Part way through Ancient Rockets by Kage Baker, a collection of her reviews of silent science fiction films she did for Tor.com in the last year of her life. It's a very bitter sweet read. A fun book but keep remembering there's not going to be more of her great writing.

And picking up where I left off a while back with The Collected Stories of Robert Silverberg Volume 2. It's a big improvement over Volume 1 and I'm sure Silverberg would be the first to agree that that's what you're supposed to think.

I'm almost finished Shater Rules: Your Guide to Understanding the Shatnerverse and the World At Large. It is probably my favourite of his autobiographies and is kind of a companion book to his memoirs he released a few years ago. It is incredibly funny but also raw and emotional at times. I would highly recommend it.

I also am flipping through Matthew Manning's The Batman Files. An incredibly awesome book and a must have if you are a Batman fan.

Just finished SCE: Some Assembly Required. I'll be starting SCE: No Surrender soon.

There's something I noticed at the end of the Some Assembly Required paperback collection in the About the Authors section. Under Dave Galanter and Greg Brodeur's section it mentions an upcoming TNG duology. I don't think it's Maximum Warp because it already mentioned that has having been written by them. I looked at Memory Beta and didn't see another duology by them. I also checked Steve Roby's Lost Books site, but didn't see anything there. Anyone know what this duology was going to be about and why it was cancelled (or never even started)?

Just wrote my review of Michael A. Martin's To Brave the Storm. I think I liked it more than most people did, but it definitely was not without its problems. Reading What Judgments Come right now.

Sat down last night and picked up New Frontier No Limits, I read the Si Cwan story which I enjoyed, the big softie lol.

I have all 4 Mission Gamma books now and Im about 85 or so pages into Book 1.

Finished No Small Bills by Aaron Rosenberg yesterday.

Next up is Christopher's The Struggle Within.

In addition to Tom Jones and The David Story (both of which are going slower than I planned), I've started to re-read A Series of Unfortunate Events on the weekends.

And there's the reprint volumes of the Terry And The Pirates comic strip. I was expecting Volume 3 to arrive today, but it hasn't yet. Starting to get a little annoyed.

Just wrapping up on TOS #3 The Klingon Gambit. Really not a bad early trek novel. Would of been a decent episode. Kind of a cross between TOS episodes The Naked Time and This Side of Paradise with the crew going wacky.
Next book on deck will be TOS #4 The Covenant of the Crown.

Recently finished Maisie Dobbs by Jacqueline Winspear. Currently reading A Place of Execution by Val McDermid.

Recently finished The Surgeon by Tess Gerritsen. I've now moved on to Wizards First Rule by Terry Goodkind.

Finally finished Losing the Peace last night. Moving right along to A Singular Destiny.

Oh, and in the audio realm, currently on Agent to the Stars by John Scalzi, narrated by Wil Wheaton.

I read Voyager #16: Seven of Nine. I was disappointed. I'm now on Gateways #1: One Small Step. Nothing special so far.
