You're telling me. Ancient Blood is probably Diane Carey's worst Trek novel, and I'm one of her biggest fans. She never really got TNG, as her libertarianesque mindset always veered more towards the nautical-themed cowboy diplomacy of TOS.
It was the Day of Honor book I disliked the least, certainly. But it's one of Diane's most lackluster efforts. The historical holonovel scenes with Picard and Alexander were far more interesting than the actual main story, which is just sad.
Trying my best to get through TNG 'Foreign Foes' by Dave Galanter and Greg Brodeur. The plot is awful but what gets me most is the terrible characterization which is winding me up more and more as I read it.
I'm actually reading Armageddon Sky right now. I have found this series to be extremely disappointmenting.
I finished "Station Rage" by Diane Carey (ST-DS9 #13) and it did do some interesting things even if plausibility was stretched a bit as usual. Then, I started "Destiny" and am pleased to be able to do it even if I am treading water with my readings being only 16 ST novels so far this year. Did "Gods of Night" by David Mack (2008) and shall start Book II of Destiny soon. Interspersing it with the odd act of "The School for Scandal" by Richard Sheridan. Bought lots of new releases (4 ST novels yesterday). Did you know that "The School for Scandal" is from around the 1700s and that early in the play the word "quantum" is used? Perhaps it was derived from standard Latin but it was surprising for me.

"Quantum" is derived from Latin, and means "one's share or portion," and has been in use since the 1600s. "Quantum" and "quantity" share the same root.
finished What Judgements Come and about a third of the way through Storming Heaven. Great stuff. Going to miss Vanguard a lot when I get to the end!

Only Human, a Dr Who NSA by Gareth Roberts - great fun, and he really nailed the 9th Doctor, and really makes me wish there had been more Eccleston episodes, cos I'd love to have seen him in this. The Neanderthal/Jack bits seemed a bit superfluous, though - funny and kind of touching, but not vital enough to make up for breaking up the pacing. I can't make up my mind whether they would have been better bigged-up and more integrated, or left out. But since those bits were amusing, I didn't mind.
I've got about 8 chapters to go with "Revelation and Dust." It's been mostly entertaining. After I wrap it up, on to "The Crimson Shadow."
I've just finished Vanguard #6: Declassified and have started on Vanguard #7: What Judgements Come. Loving this series! Will be sad when i'm finished. Seekers will be a much needed return to the Taurus Reach
This is a series i still need to finish. I own all 8 books, i read books 1 through 4 when they first were released, but never got around to reading 5 - 8. Now i'll probably go back and start over from the beginning, whenever that happens.
I've just finished reading Vanguard: Storming Heaven. Wow. That was epic.
It's a testament to the quality of the writing that despite being able to see the end coming miles off, it still packed an emotional punch when it arrived.
I don't think I've enjoyed a Trek saga so much since my first time reading New Frontier.
