Just finished Chain of Attack. And I'm thinking about how Tarka's proposal in DSC:". . . But to Connect" could precipitate (or at least perpetuate) the Chain of Attack scenario. Knowing that The Final Nexus is a direct sequel, that's next. To be followed by a couple of GC's works that recently got mentioned here.

Finished The Final Nexus. More parallels with DSC season 4. Just before I finished DSC season 4 itself, and started on LD season 3.

About to start GC's The Rings of Time. Not to be confused with DWS & KKR's The Rings of Tautee. Nor with the Holy Rings of Betazed.

Yes! And, having also just finished reading it, I have to say that, as incredibly enjoyable and rewarding it was to read it, that I feel Sir Patrick Stewart has more than enough of his “Hollywood stories” (Next Gen to present, which was the last third or so of the book) for a second memoir. I really hope he writes a second one.

Just finished AJ Black's "Lost Federations" which I bought myself as a Christmas present.

It's about the proposals for Trek programmes, episodes and films that never got made. I suspect some (or even much of the material) is available from other sources but I found it handy to have it all together. There were a number of things that were relevant to current threads on the board (proposed musical episodes, why TNG didn't go to the MU, for instance). I have two minor quibbles. The bibliography is two pages of very small print presumably because of space issues and space problems might account for the lack of an index (If you read this, Tony, how about making an online index available?)

AJ Black writes intelligent, readable prose and his other books ("Star Trek, History and Us" and "Myth-building in Modern media") are worth reading too.

Finally read through J.M. Dillard's The Undiscovered Country novelization. Fascinated to see the way characters like Azetbur, Valeris and Kerla were fleshed out. Takes some liberties from the script, but not much.

I do not recall if Cast No Shadow drew upon this book, for Valeris backstory? I know Kerla's relationship with Azetbur did not pop up again, in the Lost Era books, though.

Am also in the middle of reading the Prometheus novels, the Great Starship Race, and book 3 of the Q-Zone trilogy...

Just posted my review of TNG: Losing the Peace by William Leisner from back in 2009. Definitely interesting revisiting this period of Trek lit, especially with a story that becomes more and more relevant with each passing year.

Currently reading Volume 1 of the current Star Trek comic series, Godshock by Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly. I've been putting off reading the current comics, but definitely enjoying these! Going in directions I was not expecting.

Thanks for posting good things about this book. I got a copy the other day, and had a genuine "record scratch!" moment reading on Page 2 of the Prologue, when the author says "Spock and Number One were conceptually melded for 'The Man Trap', the newly filmed pilot that replaced Pike..."

Uh, 'The Man Trap' wasn't a pilot at all. It was the first episode aired, but something like the 5th or 6th one filmed.

It's a small error, but when I read a nonfiction book and catch errors in things that I do know about, it calls into question everything the author says about all the things I don't know about. Was he as slipshod about everything?

I don't disagree with anything you've said. Facts should be facts.

On the other hand, people are human and make mistakes. What seems too often to be a laissez-faire by publishers towards editing doesn't help as mistakes that used to be picked up get left (or even added. I read a book from an academic publisher on a STEM subject and I find it really hard to believe that an academic used "discreet" for "discrete" throughout their manuscript...)

In general, I feel Black is pretty sound even when I disagree with him.

I started reading the Kindle edition of Fairy Tail Vol. 1 by Hiro Mishima. This actually the first manga I've ever read, I've read a lot of American comics, and I've watched some anime, but I've never read manga before. I knew going into about reading it right to left, but it still took a few pages to remember to do it consistently.
So far it's been pretty fun.

Read the two new stories in issue #10 of the magazine: a Jack Crusher story by Una McCormick and a TOS story by Chris Dows. The younger Jack Crusher, that is.

Followed by the two bonus stories in the digital supplement: a TAS story by Rich Handley and a Scotty/Uhura TOS story by Jake Black.

Finished up Fairy Tail and started ST:SNW: The High Country last night.
Fairy Tail was a lot of fun, and I look forward to reading more.
I've only read the first chapter of The High Country so far, but it's off to a good start.
