I decided I was in a comic book mood, so I started Captain Marvel (2012-13 series) Vol. 2 Down written by Kelly Sue DeConnick & Christopher Sebela, with art by Dexter Soy & Filipe Andrade, colors by Dexter Soy, Veronica Gardini & Jordie Bellaire, and letters by VC's Joe Caramagna. Still working my way through Sandstorm too.
I'm working on Charles Soule's Star Wars: The High Republic -- The Light of the Jedi, the lead book in Disney's multimedia Star Wars event.
200 years before the Clone Wars and the fall of the Republic, the Republic is on the verge of opening a space station on the Outer Rim -- the Starlight Beacon -- which will be an outpost of Republic law and values at the edge of the frontier. (Think Deep Space Nine or Babylon 5.) But, before the triumphant opening, there's a hyperspace disaster that threatens the Outer Rim itself, there's a strange threat (the Nihil) beyond the frontier, and the Jedi are called upon to use their training and wisdom against these problems.
About 100 pages in I realized what was nagging at me. This isn't a Star Wars novel. It's a Star Trek novel. It's competence porn. The Jedi are the Starfleet to the Republic's Federation, the goers and doers, the example, the light in the darkness. Where Picard and his crew would solve their problems with their brains and their tech, the Jedi solve their brains and the Force. Calling this "Vanguard in the GFFA" isn't entirely off-base...

I realized that when I read an article about this series recently -- that it's Star Trek in the Star Wars universe. The Republic at its height, living up to its truest ideals, doing good and helping people solve crises in peacetime. I may want to check this out.
It was in my shipment at work on Wednesday, and I had no idea it was street dated. Now that I know I'm not going to stop reading it.
But if you are a good person you wait untill the rest of can buy the book... Or you don't and follow the dark side
I would expect The High Republic to feel a lot different than previous Star Wars books. That is one of the main points of putting them in an era that is barely connected to any of the existing movies and shows.
For Star Trek, I'm rereading Memory Prime by Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens. I don't know why, but there is a line space between every paragraph on my Kindle copy, and there are some odd italics and misspellings. Perhaps it was one of the earlier ebook conversions in the Star Trek line. The book itself is mostly a fun read, and I especially like their ideas for the Pathfinders.

I finished Fortune of War and now have to decide if I want to read Control or The Dark Veil next. Going off what I heard about Control and it being rather depressing in its ending I'll read Control first and then The Dark Veil, hoping it's more upbeat.
Currently I'm reading 'The Eugenics Wars, Vol. 2'. Great job Greg Cox! I am actually on a long chronological read thru of Trek, and I'm in 2270. I'm a big fan of Mr. Seven & Ms. Lincoln and their adventures!
As far as non Trek, I'm currently on a reread of the Spinward Fringe series by Randolph Lalonde , just starting out in the Origins trilogy.
