So What Are you Reading?: Generations

Finished Vulcan's Soul - Epiphany.

I'd like to read more of the Romulans, the Vulcans and the Watraii.

Started with The Face of the Unknown now. It's good to see Kirk in action again.

I've gone back to The Dresden Files: Side Jobs. I've only got a couple more short stories in here before I catch up to where I am in the novels.

Just finished VAN: Open Secrets. This one had a little bit of everything between the legal drama, the Shedai artifacts, and the Klingon escalations. Again, it's another VAN novel that travels seamlessly between different parts of the Taurus Reach and I could really visualize the T'Prynn and Sobok mind meld setting. Solid descriptive writing. There are some really great set pieces in this one. I'm still trying to visualize Rear Admiral Nogura. I had an actor's face in mind but I can't remember from where.

Breezed through some 2267 Constellations shorts but still couldn't really get drawn in by any of them. Moving on to VAN: Precipice.

The Vanguard authors (and I, in Forgotten History) tended to write Nogura with Mako's face and voice in mind.

As far as I know, the one actor who's ever actually played Nogura onscreen was in a never-released fan film from the '80s, Yorktown II: A Time to Heal, with James Shigeta playing the role.

Admiral Nogura was in TMP

He was only referenced in TMP, never seen.

I swear to you I had not read any online chatter about this but Mako came to mind. Awesome.

When Star Trek Magazine published an excerpt from Open Secrets way back when, they included a bit of artwork they created just for the piece, and went with our suggestion of Mako as our "actor template" for Nogura.

I've pretty much stuck to Mako, but I've also thought that James Hong would be a good backup.

While Hong has played a number of Japanese (and other Asian) characters in the course of his career, I'd prefer to see an actual Japanese actor in the role.

That's fair. I have admit, I didn't really think about anything more than the fact that Hong is Asian.

I can't find anything to arbitrarily pick on here. Now I know how Christopher feels when he reads his own posts.
