So..... Transformers....

Honestly, I'm only marginally interested in checking out the Bumblebee movie, which is about 100 times more interested than I've been in a Transformers movie for the best part of a decade, so I guess that's a good sign. ;)

Bumblebee looks like it might be good and have a story. I was sold by the G1 looking Starscream and the fact that Michael Bay isn't directing. I also like that they went with a female writer for the script. I'm wondering if this is designed to be a soft reboot for the series?

There are a lot of movies coming out then..it will be low on my list to see.

I guess i didn't pay attention...but how did Bubmlebee come to take his form? Why are we only recently aware of Transformers?

Woah! Look at Shockwave and Soundwave! Now THIS is the Transformers movie I have been waiting for. I had totally given up on the Bayformer crap but this I get can behind despite not liking BumbleBee.

Holy crap, Soundwave! I like seeing all the Transformers look like the old cartoon versions (even as someone who never really got into the show), but I've always liked Soundwave the best and seeing him even for a second was awesome.

This movie actually looks pretty good. I never thought I'd say that about a Transformers movie.

So is this still set in the Micheal Bay Transformers universe, or is this the start of a new one?

I think it's a prequel to the other Transformers movies. Though I'm sure very little effort was put into continuity beyond broad strokes. For example, why does Optimus Prime already look like he's copied a Red and Blue semi-truck if he hasn't been to Earth yet?

It has been years since i saw the first movie.....so was Bubmlebee here the whole time?

Yeah...it looks and sounds more like what i wanted originally...

yeah, we start the movie with Bumblebee on Earth, not sure if there are any references to when he actually arrived, but it's not recently.

Word on the street is that after TLK's failure, Paramount is hedging their bets on whether or not it is. Depending on how this installment performs, future movies could go either way. (I also suspect that the more G1 elements were added later in production, after TLK bombed. I.e. it started as a prequel and then they pivoted towards more of a reboot once it became clear that the Bayverse was outstaying its welcome. But that's just speculation.)

Well my interest suddenly just leapt from "marginal" to "moderate". I can't deny the G1 designs are a big plus for my squishy, nostalgia addicted brain...but the rest of the movie could still suck. I'll definitely check it out on home video though, if only out of curiosity.

I've never had a problem with their look before hand, but I never watched the G1 show.

Yeah, this actually looks like it could be pretty fun.

Ok. I just wasn't sure because I thought I remembered hearing they were supposed to be rebooting Transformers and GI Joe into a shared Hasbro universe, but I wasn't sure if that was actually happening.

Just finish the Unicron story before rebooting. That's all I ask.
Also, shouldn't Cybertron already be lost at this time? Megatron has been missing for nearly a 1,000 years and most of his army are out in the galaxy trying to find him.

I know they're doing that in the comics. If it was ever part of the cinematic universe, it would have been part of that writer's room that came up with the last Michael Bay movie, and all of which is now up in the air due to the aforementioned movie flopping.

Well, damn. Did not expect my interests to be perked at ALL by Bumblebee after the increasingly awful train wrecks Bay has directed. But, there you go!

Also wondered about Prime's form -- I'm presuming that IS Cybertron they're duking it out on...
