Spoilers So now Discovery is 'synched-up' with canon

I never understand creators fascination with prequels anyway, and in the realm of science fiction actually have never heard of one being universally beloved.

Which makes it SO weird that they decided to make ALL their future Trek shows (from Section 31 to the Picard-show) into fucking prequels! For DIS season 3 now.

That's really asking for troubles. Ugh.

I don't know. Sometimes I think a prequel can be done right, but of course it has literary constraints and, in Star Trek's case, you have the additional layer of continuity to adhere to.

I will say this, even though it's not a very strong season of Star Trek in general (though I think it's one of the stronger FIRST seasons), to me, it really shows in season one of Enterprise that the writers are enjoying making use of the new world they were putting together. In many ways, they were freed from the conventions of past shows and were able to write dialogue that 24th century characters wouldn't say. They were also able to make use of the idea that space can be scary and dangerous; though they didn't do enough of that. Now was it overall successful? I don't think so. But, the docs on the BLU-RAY really shed light on studio interference just wanting the regular Trek formula of the past.

While they had to be sure to line up with canon, Enterprise was definitely far enough removed from the TOS period to where they were able to do a lot without having to worry. I will always think that most of the "canon violations" that fans see are just perceived as so because certain things were never mentioned before.

A ship in the space, explores stuff, encounters aliens, weird shit and dangerous situations. It's a solid concept and it works.
Producers of Star Trek do not believe that. I don't think you are going to see any Star Trek show any time soon that just explores stuff.

A pure exploration show runs the risk of being a Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea monster-of-the-week series, and something TOS's creators were able to deftly avoid.

There is no perfect solution to making a perfect show or it would have happened by now.

The TV show based exploration based stories have been done to death with TOS and TNG.

Also add the factor of dozens and dozens of Sci fi shows and movies that emerged since the 1960's with their own take of alien life and space adventure, simply landing/beaming down to the next alien misunderstanding of the week just doesn't draw as well as it did when TOS was broadcasted.

The issue is that they think they are creating the perfect show. They think they fixed everything in Season 2 and next season they are going to build on top of it and go even bigger. Bigger stakes! Bigger everything! Must save the universe, once again! :brickwall:

You're complaining about something that has not been started and does not exist yet.
You're pre-planning to be upset about an outcome that may or may not happen. Why do that to yourself?

Hahaha. Someone actually said this^

I would hope future series will be more exploration based. Or at least have the drama set against a background of exploration. Exploration doesn't have to be filled with one-off beam down - solve aliens problems - the end. I think 1 seaQuest season 1 has a great mix of exploration, political intrigue, and character drama.

I would like to see Discovery handle things like disaster relief or actual shipwreck lifesaving as well. Doesn't have to have a twist angle, let the story be what it is. Starfleet is the coast guard of the UFP in some ways, so let them do some of that too.

Disaster relief would be an interesting idea.

I would love episodes of a series to have actual space exploration. The universe is filled with so many bizarre and wonderful things. Let's see some of them.

I'm thinking there will be a chance for these kinds of plots with Lower Decks.

Kurtzman already confirmed: https://trekmovie.com/2019/04/19/al...ason-3-destination-hears-fans-on-pike-series/
All I can tell you is that Control is officially neutralized, but there will be much bigger problems when they get to the other side of that wormhole.

Now maybe Kurtzman just threw out this blurb other there and they have no actual plot yet. But how much bigger can it get than "must save all intelligent life in the galaxy"?

I would like to see that as well. It would be nice to see them go about some more day to day tasks.

The writers asked us to accept something fairly odd in the first season by introducing Burnham as the never-before-mentioned sister of one of the most important characters in the franchise,

Why is this odd? How often do main characters, (especially Spock) talk about their relatives? Only when its in the script. No one knew Spock had a fiance until Amok Time, not even the in universe characters knew.

Er all the sentient males are made infertile due to a Section 31000 experiment gone awry???

And some fans would complain that it was boring, they pay to be entertained they don't want to see 'normal' blah blah blah.

Just no. Those are easily the two best Trek shows and it should be worth taking notice of what they did right.

Exploration and pushing boundaries worked best for TOS, it befitted the attitudes and the viewership of the time. The producers even demanded less of the sci fi and more action for flip sakes...

TNG gave up on exploration after season 2, it became the Picard show full on by season 4, with the odd episode in the Holodeck as filler.

As with all entertainment, including music and arts, their impact is entirely dependent on the era.

-Captain, their ship is drifting into neutral zone. I know our job is to tow this ship out of harms way but our tractor beam is not powerful enough to stop them.
-Screw it Ensign, we must save that ship! No mater the cost, no matter the consequences... Overload the warp reactor.... Psssh... (Sound from hyposrpay held by second in command, as captain falls to the ground, sound asleep)
-I told him to skip second espresso this morning. Now, ensign, signal the nearest starship with powerful enough tractor beam. There is one about 5 minutes away. Now, someone help me get the captain to his quarters where he can sleep it off, again.

Oh, I have already noted that this production team cannot win at all with fans. No matter what they do they will get accusations of "not real Trek" or "too much pew-pew" or some nonsense.

Right...see that would never happen because then it defies the "only ship in the quadrant/sector/galaxy" trope.
