So, it's Captain Robau...

Where did I miss them saying the ship was the Potemkin?
The problem here is that the Constitution-Class Potemkin not only survives through TOS its part of the operational planning Operation Retrieve in Stat Trek IV.
Unless this isnt the Constitution Class Potemkin, theres still the "not seen before" which could mean that its just not been seen but I thought it suggested a new ship.

Even if it is Constitution Class, just means the ship from Op Retrieve is a new build ship.
The original Battleship Potemkin was a Dreadnought type. This could be a Dreadnought Constitution Starship in the movie. One we havent seen before like the Excelsior in STIII

Or, it's a familiar starship (maybe even the Enterprise) in an alternate timeline. If I had to bet purely on spec, I think that's where I'd put my money.

So Pike in command of the Enterprise in one timeline and Robau in command of the Enterprise in the other timeline?

Sure, why not? Maybe Robau was a nothing ensign who never had a chance to distinguish himself in the TOS timeline. But the way events unfold in the altered timeline, he's captain of that NCC-1701.
That's the joy of alternate timelines. Just throwing it up at the ceiling to see if it sticks.

Older ship is possible and it would be nice to see what came before the Constitutions

Its the same registry as in TOS.
