So is everyone sold on the title?

^
Well, maybe MOV then. It's noted as 'Star Trek (film)' over at Memory Alpha.

And three or four letters are the rage: TMP, TWOK, TSFS, TVH, TFF, TUC, GEN, FC, INS, NEM... MOV.

If they must put a : there, I wouldn't mind them calling it Star Trek: Regeneration.

Ick. Sounds like some low-budget straight-to-video horror movie.

Exactly. What is it with people insisting on titles with subtitles and colons and numbers and stuff like that? Star Trek: Regeneration, Star Trek: The Romulan War... idiocy! Let's be glad it's just plain "Star Trek"... it's classy, and it signifies what it hopefully is... pure and simple and good Star Trek.

And then when octogenarian Shatner finally gets his turn in the next sequel "Return of the Fatty"...

I personally thing "Return of the Shat" is a bit more catchy, but I like where you're going!

BTW, I'm cool with the fact that they're just doing Star Trek, especially if they're also trying to attract a new audience. While hardcore/casual fans will know this isn't the first, a general audience/viewer might be more attracted to plain-simple-Star Trek over something with a number or a subtitle. After all, how many movies these days have sequels with numbers or subtitles? It might be easier to appeal to some, even those who may never have heard of it before (the horror!), if there's no number/subtitle.

Honestly, that's what Trek needs. It needs to bring in new people. Does the fanbase need to be reunited? Yes, most definitely. But good luck with that one because some fans can't agree on whether or not they want the original characters to be recast or whether or not Shatner should appear in it at all. But I think it would be easier to try to make something that would appeal to the general public, while at the same time not alienate or even cater to the established fanbase. After all, I doubt you can even cater to the established fans because most of them disagree on something!

BTW, I do like the simple title.

Fine with me.

Besides, "STAR TREK XI:(insert partially cheesy and tongue-tied subtitle here)" would be a little much. And usually only foreign films and Freddy Krueger sequels have titles longer than your average long distance phone number.
