So I got and XBOX. Now what?

This isn't a good time to buy a 360, the price is about to drop (basically confirmed by advanced copies of Sunday ads) and there are rumors that the 20GB model is going to be replaced by a 60GB model.

Well it's a bit too late for that now. ;)
Hopefully the place you bought it from has a 30 day guarantee.

I'm too lazy for that sort of mess and I already set it up and unless the price was slashed in half I'm not gonna bother.

^ If you bought it from a big chain store, you should be able to take the receipt back in for a price difference refund, no hassles. The back of your receipt might tell you about the store's policy.

As other pointed out.

MASS EFFECT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's like they took the best from B5, created their own awesome universe and there you have it

Amazon also has a 30 day low price guarantee. If you see an item for a lower price on their site within 30 days of buying it you can email them and get the difference.
It looks like the price cut on the 20GB model is going to be to $300 (as far as I know we don't know the price on the other models yet). $50 is nearly a game or a year of Xbox Live.

Pretty much my feelings on the game, as well. It's become one of my favorite RPGs of all time. My only issue with it is the uncharted worlds, which are pretty bland. Everything else, though... :techman:

There's a Saints Row 2 trailer that basically, and perhaps literally, shits on GTA4.

You know, we all pretty much agree that GTA is a great franchise, but I'm thinking if the guys that make Saints Row would take their basica game (which is basically a ripoff of GTA) and just tweak a few things, they could actually make a better game.

For example, make a real replay system that works, i.e. allow you to save at any point. And eliminate some of the drawn out and unnecessary BORING car chases and/or long drives to the mssion (Think "Three Leafed Clover" from GTA4) and they could have an absolutely amazing game.

But that's just my $0.02.

But GTA4 has an "Oscar worthy" story reminiscent of "The Sopranos"!
I love reviews. :p

I'm not sure what people expected out of GTAIV. Would you have wanted it to be like Fable, where you can go into a store, kill the owner and take it over to make some daily income? Then sell the place for a profit?

I think people were expecting GTA4 to at least pay lip service to the rudiments of modern game design. The story was boring, the controls were terrible beyond all belief, the mission design was repetitive and endlessly frustrating. And no, I don't think the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

But hey, that's just me :D

That could've been interesting, especially if you had to defend stores in seedy areas from gangs from time to time or get revenge on a gang for killing one of your employees.

I actually thought it took the most annoying parts of Babylon 5. I'm not a fan of over-the-top melodrama.

Would have been nice if some dialogue options could have made Shepard more like Colonel O'Neill and less like Captain Sheridan.

Still a worthwhile purchase for anyone into sci-fi, which Neeka Keet must be if she's here. It's just a little overrated is all.

Anyway, in addition to Mass Effect, Halo 3 has a solid single and multiplayer experience. Although 90% of the other players are pricks, but they can be muted.

Gears of War is great for single player and offline co-op. Had some good times playing through the campaign with friends. Haven't tried it online yet though.

Neeka, you're going to really like GTA, and I see you're already falling in love with Call of Duty. The game itself is amazing, and the Xbox Live multiplayer is the stuff of legend. I also HIGHLY recommend BioShock. I'd say it was probably the game of 2007.

Don't worry about the RROD, yes it happens but i have had my one and only 360 since Feb 2006 and not one bit of trouble, no matter what i throw at it, and even if it does RROD your covered for free repair/replacement until the end of 2010...so just enjoy it.

Games that are a must.

Paradise burnout.
Lego the complete saga.
Forza motor sport 2.
PGR3/4.
Graw 1/2.
Gears.
Rainbow 6.
Mass effect.
Saints row.
prey.
The darkness.
Crackdown.
Condemned.

Those are just some of the top of my head, and as a added bonus most will be really cheap to buy as they have been out for some time.

Nonsensical? Hardly. I'd rather hear from normal gamers than reveiwers who I've long since discovered have completely different opinions of what makes for good gaming than I do.

Quite right. Everyone could wait around for the price to fall some time in the future.

We're working through the Orange Box just now. I know it's all old stuff but it's our first time and it's great fun. I loved Bioshock too.

I'd like to ask you - just what game is the best game ever made? Metal Gear Solid 4, which deserves an 11 on IGN's 10 point scale or GTA4 for apparently having a script that rivals the best of Hollywood, even though it's fairly simplistic, misogynist and homophobic?

What's strange is that reviewers end up being more fanboyish than actual fanboys. It's like they feel the need to justify their early access to the publishers that give them games.
