This idea has probably been mentioned before, but...
A schism formed between those aliens called Prophets and those called Pah-Wraiths, which we were led to assume happened in the distant past. BUT, the wormhole aliens had no concept of linear time, so it's possible the split wound up affecting the past first. Sisko was the first corporeal being to contact the Prophets. Sisko's meeting of the Prophets may have caused the split between those who sought to observe Bajor (or corporeal life in general) and those who wished direct intervention (beyond revenge, the Pah-Wraith's motivations are murky) . The orbs were also a result of Sisko's contact.
It's quite possible Sisko's first contact not only created the wraiths, but created the Bajoran religion and the circumstances of his own birth.
