So Am I A Whiner?

It has come to my atention than some people actually think I do a lot of whining in here. Shocking I know. But I am nothing if not a man of the people so I thought I'd throw it open for a vote. What say you all?

Hmm, that does describe me pretty accurately. I think I use that as a pre-emptive automatic defense mechanism against people. The whole idea that you can't put me down because I am going to do it first. And as away to make excuses for myself before I even say anything. Like saying if I am a dull, worthless poster this is why. Thanks, that is something to think about.

If that's really how you feel, you should get help. Bringing it up here while not actually doing anything about it makes you look like an attention whore, like you want people to tell you you're valuable and worthwhile and they don't want you to die.

I doubt anyone here does want you to die. If you really are that depressed, then you owe it to yourself to get help. Telling us about it ain't gonna do much. I'm sure there are people here who would be totally supportive of you if you were getting help, though.

The comments about low-self esteem, depression, and suicide (jokes or not) all suggest you should seek professional help. Relying on other people for your own self-image is a bad way to go. There are a lot of people here that care about you, and want to see you take care of yourself, but you have to be the one to do that. And while we're mostly good-intentioned people here, we're not professionals and we can't give you the insight or the tools you need to change your behavior. Please take care of yourself, DJ.

There are few things I hate more than the sound of whining--it makes my hands curl up reflexively into claws, ready to strangle.

You've certainly never posted anything that has prompted that reaction in me. So, no, I don't think you're a whiner.

I don't think you're a whiner, DJ. Your contributions to the board are valuable. You're open about your struggles, but from time to time we all need a place where we can be open like that. I agree with what other posters are saying, in that you should seek the help we can't give you here in Misc.
