Spoilers So, about Rios’s fate…

Rios may still do something in the past on 21st century Earth which they can either have someone in the future read about out loud as they explore a historical text whilst looking at a photograph of him, or alternatively, a scene presented in the form of a flashback; in which case they would have to get the actor back. Rios could have set an important butterfly effect in to motion in the 21st century that we do not see the flutters from until the far future in season 3 of Picard*. He could have helped to free a sanctuary district from captivity or something like that, and an ancestor of either someone Rios rescued or Rios himself could be on a future crew. They can’t have all ancestors being Soong on this show, it would get a bit too silly. Santiago Cabrera could even play the ancestor if they were directly related to him, a bit like how Brent Spiner plays a tonne of characters. Also, Isa Briones played a tonne of Soongs’. Orla Brady has also played a tonne of Laris. There is definitely precedent for this kind of casting. They can not forget that Cabrera has already played a tonne of Rios’ as depicted via his various holographic guises. So there could even still be a holographic Rios which Seven of Nine installs on to the Enterprise for ‘emergencies’… but they could be for personal emergencies, nothing serious.

*or beyond.

A great character from the series destroyed for no reason. He could have been used a lot in the Picard spin-off. It doesn't matter if it's a series that succeeds TNG, PIC, VOY or DS9.

Commander / Captain Cristobal Rios, I salute you. You are Starfleet to the core! Everything for the Federation!

If they ever did want to bring back Rios the could just have him somehow fake the barfight death or somehow arrange the records to look that way. The minute he stayed behind he took on responsibilities for his family and he knew what kind of future they'd face in the war(s).

He may have had an intention like that from the moment he decided to stay. Rios was hardly a by-the-rules guy. He could have found a way out for him and the family, but I doubt they'll ever revisit, except in novels. Anyway, if he needed a lift, there was probably a certain old Vulcan in Carbon Creek that could thumb a ride for him.

If they want to bring Rios back then just use the Temporal Police from "Relativity."

If he stays dead then it's in line with Gene's vision.

Win-win.

I dug Rios in season 1, but after the way they did him dirty in season 2, alternate 2024 can keep him.

I actually found it refreshing that Rios actually enjoyed 21st-century life and actively desired to stay.

Kind of makes a nice change from the "look at how bad everything is, you should all be ashamed of yourselves" attitude that seems to be the norm lately. :sigh:

In fact, there were good reasons for Rios taking his new family into the future rather than staying behind. The mother and the child were affected by the events and were also at risk from the authorities because of Rio's behavior. He could then have resigned from Starfleet to help his family find their way in the future. Maybe even as neighbors of the Rikers and could have shared the pizza oven ;) and all options for the authors would have been preserved.
