SNL new Star Trek skit

She was the only decent thing about it...and she was completely wasted as the set-up, straight woman (so to speak).
If I've learned anything, when it comes to comedy, it's never a good idea to make Kate McKinnon the straight woman. She's just wasting her talent.

No show lasts on American TV for 46 seasons missing it’s mark on a regular basis. SNL is a sketch show which means multiple per week. That means there’ve been thousands of them. There are bomb sketches every week, but some of the sketches over the years have been incredibly incisive and funny.

Sounds like you haven’t seen enough to have an informed opinion.

Yes that's probably right, I definitely didn't find this sketch funny though.

That was warped. Comes across as a bunch of lampooned stereotyped memes woven into a generic red alert subplot and not enough of it really comes together. Not sure who the target audience is, and it's surely not the stereotyped 18-40-something crowd?

YMMV, but some skit shows tend to be hit or miss, and generally date badly. The last time I saw SNL was maybe a decade ago. That said, I chuckled a couple of times, and in of itself the setup that juxtaposes the life-or-death situation with "the selfie song" wasn't bad, and was impressed by the production value for the sets. But it felt overall flat. That, and In Living Color, and MadTV (which are also hit or miss) did Trek lampoons better.
