SNL new Star Trek skit

...that was suppose to be funny? :wtf:

Admittedly I've never watched SNL but I've seen the odd sketch here and there over the years and based on those I've never seen the big deal about it, I've rarely found them funny.

Does this mean Carey's now done Dr Who and Trek though? ;)

"Funny" is quite subjective and even in front of the most hilarious skit in history someone will ask "Is it supposed to be funny?".

So, I don't know what would be the right answer for a similar question. It was presented inside a sketch comedy and variety show so I suppose that whoever decided to broadcast it thought it was funny. Unless do you believe this is a proposal for a new Trek show and someone mistakenly put it inside SNL.

I found myself more intrigued by the set pieces, in particular, trying to determine if those "screens" mounted upon the bulkheads were actual LCD or oLED monitors. I could not detect any changes in the "data" displayed, so I'm guessing they were just "inert" elements. But certainly looked like they were illuminated.

Yeah, the set and costume designs were very well done.

Pity they didn't put as much effort into their jokes as they did with the sets and costumes.

I thought of her as somewhere between Michael Burnham, Lower Decks done badly, and Mary Sue; a character who is all 'woke', all emotion, and should totally be the hero, even though she is unqualified.

No, didn’t have anything to do with DSC, other than the sketch being called a prequel. The Black officer nailed it.

No show lasts on American TV for 46 seasons missing it’s mark on a regular basis. SNL is a sketch show which means multiple per week. That means there’ve been thousands of them. There are bomb sketches every week, but some of the sketches over the years have been incredibly incisive and funny.

Sounds like you haven’t seen enough to have an informed opinion.

I didn't find the skit funny even though I understood their target and intent. The funny part would be the kind of people they're making fun of reacting to being made fun of.

I really liked the set and the Trek meet B5 uniforms but yes, not as funny as some of their older Trek sketches (check out the ones with Chris Pine proving he can play Shatner-Kirk!).

The “I always see them in the corridors having deep conversations in hushed tones” line deserves a chuckle, though.

Definitely not my favorite Trek SNL skit. There were some reasonably amusing elements but it doesn’t really say anything clever or interesting about Star Trek.
