It was an okay episode. I dunno. As much as I like the Zod character, the storyline doesn't seem to be going anywhere. It almost seems like they were going one way with the tower and everything, but then decided to change stream mid-season and bring in the Checkmate stuff.

Anyone else besides me start the show from the very beginning when it was still on the WB and "Angel" was in its 4th or 5th season?

I was there since day one. I recently caught a 1st or 2nd season episode. Wow...the show is so different now.

This show is getting better and worse at the same time...

Better; More Superman mythos, JL, L* & JSA.
Worse; Doomsday debacle, Henry James Olson, No Kara & Zod + Kandorians arc dragging on and on.

Even worse...Clark/The Blur not flying. :(

I think that's a good way to describe this show.

Chloe sure got Tess to take her shirt off a lot, huh. The only thing they didn't do was kiss, which is a shame. I think Tess is going to owe Chloe. The moving body tracker was pretty original I will say.

Can I make a recommendation for Season 10? If they insist on doing The New Adventures of Lois and Clark, then I have the perfect idea for the new villain. The General. Think about it, in the comics he's already a villain, trying to rid Earth of Superman and the Kandorians. Send him in after the carnage of Season 9 to finish the job. It would create some legit tension between Lois and Clark.

^ Are you referring to Sam Lane? I'd be up for that if he's played again by Michael Ironside who I'd rather have voice Darkseid!!! This season I think has suffered from pacing problems I think. I will admit to being excited about Zod returning. Then we learn that he and his Kandorians are clone which presents problems. The writers have to come up with a season long arc for them which I wish they would have only taken half a season to take care of and maybe addressed Checkmate as the Big Bad in the second half of the season. It just appears that there doesn't seem to be anything happening. I'm curious to see how they handle the finale this season. I have stated it before and agree that it would be kind of handy for Clark and his allies to have both Lana and Kara. After all Kara leaves stating because she apparently heard rumors that Kandor was out there. I'm surprised that J'onn or someone else wasn't able to relay a message to her to return to Earth because the Kandorians have arrived. Of course we know that Laura has been busy on "V" and unavailable.

So one of Zod's minions referred to him as General...I thought this Zod was only a Major, or did he give himself a promotion?

Only problem with the CW is there cast is pretty much all young. I doubt they'd want to cast an older actor as Sam Lane but they would have to. They'd probably give him a young assistant to do a lot of the dirty work.

Clark backed by Lana, Kara, and John Jones would be more than enough to deal with the Kandorians.

Of course, it would be awesome if Lex would return and find a way to get rid of them. Maybe the Mayor of Gotham can activate the Lex Signal...a dark silohette of his bald head.

Luthor Mansion security has never been competent...I laughed when Ollie crashed through the roof. Is the mansion empty right now? No one maintaining it or internal security from Luthor Corp? I know that Tess and Zod are allied and he pretty much occupied the mansion from the start of the season. I can't help but think that Lex would be disgusted by these aliens in his home.

I agree that Sam Lane would probably be cast with someone younger or have a young good looking attache either male or female.

Luthor security...Lex has an entire cementary filled with his security personnel. I don't care how rich he is....who would want that job?

It reminded me of some of the Star Trek movie material stating that the Enterprise was the only ship to complete its five-year misson, at least in tact. There were like 12 ships like the Enterprise...are you telling me 11 of them were destroyed? Don't give me this "the human spirit of exploration" crap. Who in the name of God would want to serve in Starfleet with a fatality rate of nearly 100%?

My idea for Season 10 of Smallville...

If Chloe is indeed going to die and they're going to make this The New Adventures of Lois and Clark, then here's how I'll set it up. Tess, out of gratitude to Chloe, takes over as the new Watchtower. Clark is willing to forgive anything after all. Oliver stays around. General Lane takes over as a new villian and he has Metallo as his chief henchman. Lois initially wanted to see BAG to her father to help him out. Maybe General Lane is controlling him somehow. His job is to clean up the mess the Kandorians left behind and that means targeting all superpowered people, like the Blur. Maxwell Lord could jump back in here as well. Eventually, General Lane starts working with Lex Luthor, who makes a big return to close out the series. At the very least, this would create some real and legitimate tension between Lois and Clark.

It'll never happen but that's the story I'd like to see in Season 10.

DP,

Some good ideas for S10. I like how the comics are using General Lane and Lucy Lane right now. Lane reminds me of Thunderbolt Ross and that's a good thing as far as I'm concerned. Michael Ironsides has always made a good villain. It would be good to bring him back.

Though I got a feeling that they might go the Darkseid route, or I hope they do at least. I remember when Amanda Waller dropped that hint about apocalypse (Apokolips?) and it would be awesome if they found a way to bring him on and do it right. Cast Michael Clarke Duncan and maybe look to the Dark Side Club comic stories for inspiration.

As for S9, I just can't get into Callum Blue's Zod. I missed the first half of this episode, but from what I could tell it seemed like it was a good one, that they are ramping up for the finale, and Smallville usually does a good job building up but rarely finishing satisfactorily. If I cared more about Zod I would've really liked this episode.

I think Blue over pronounces his words, his delivery irks me, and his arc has been herky jerky. It also doesn't make much sense that he developed all of these powers so quickly, though I guess that's been loosely defined throughout Smallville's run with other Kryptonians or people possessed by them. I also don't care for the Kandorian thing. I would rather they just refer to themselves as Kryptonian and be done with it.

It didn't make sense to me that he killed Faora and then bugged out about the baby. I thought he could hear the baby before he strangled her to death? And I'm surprised that none of the Kandorians or Clark didn't bring up at the end that he had actually just saved them from Checkmate-where was Zod during that? Instead Clark just stood there, instead of defending himself.

^
The problem is Checkmate was going to kill them and Clark just saving them isn't enough...Zod gives them their powers and he looks like a hero while Clark looks dumb defending those who wanted them dead...at least in the eyes of the Kandorians. Zod can skate by killing Faora because Clark keeps defending those who wants them dead...and I can see the resentment, because Clark has powers and the Kandorians have none.

Another trouble with the Kandorian arc of course is that it was lifted from the New Krypton story arc going on in the comics. Smallville has tinkered around with it to fit their own mythos and continuity which is fine of course but it's just not working because it reeks too much like the comic arc and of course we already know that the real Zod is imprisioned within the Phantom Zone. I find it entirely interesting that Jor-El hasn't spoken to the Kandorian clones yet. Terrance Stamp just not available or has there been another reason that I'm not familiar with?

^
I think this is where Jor El is testing Clark...interfering wouldn't help Clark grow at this point it isn't to say Jor El might not say/do something in the future if Zod & Co. is in the Fortress.

[add] Or Stamp isn't available.

^ Watch Jor-El speak the first lines of season ten! "You have done well my son...far better than I expected with the clones." "Where the hell where you? I could have used your help dad." LOL

^
Jor El AI seems selective in what it knows and doesn't.

I also wonder about Jor El's Brainiac...was it defeted by Zod's or did it escape...or was that Clark's ship???

[add] Or was that just a throw away line when Lara mentioned it?
