Of course he also spent much of that time traveling the world and learning philosophies and martial arts and such, all the while being the "mystery savior". Ma Kent famously kept a scrapbook of all those stories and quite some time later that scrapbook came back to haunt the Kents.
Ah, those were fun times, knowing the characters but not "knowing" the new characterizations. Generally, I approved of what they did back then. I'm quite hopeful JJ Abrams will do the same with NuTrek.
