Sleepy Hollow Season 2 Discussion

We haven't seen the Horseman of Famine or Pestilence yet have we? Abraham aka War is still out there. Surely other things trapped in Purgatory were released when Moloch was killed and are roaming out there. There's lots of ways for the show to go.

They showed considerable 21st century restraint in the adjectives the locals used to describe Abbie in the 18th century. Simply "a woman" is probably not the first thing that would have come to mind back then, without a descriptive modifier. "Runaway slave" was closer to the mark. I wouldn't want full-blown realism there, of course, but an occasional "negro" would have brought enough historical realism to keep us in the moment, and further remind us of how far we've come.

I loved how this episode mirrored the pilot but with the two leads' situations inverted.

Aside from the ones already mentioned (Abbie almost getting trampled by the horses, the Starbucks conversation about changes to the town, etc.), we also got a flipped jail scene and Ichabod's mentor being beheaded instead of Abbie's.

I also enjoyed how this episode (and, to a lesser degree, the previous episode) was a return to the frantic pacing and compressed story-telling of the first season. It really feels like this show is back on track and a regular cast of four that features Irving, Crane, and the Mills sisters would streamline the stories by removing the extraneous arcs for Henry and Katrina. I would not, however, be opposed to more of Atkins' journalist character should we get another season.

Things do not look promising on the renewal front, though. The finale didn't manage to lift the ratings for the show and Sleepy Hollow may be tied too closely to the former regime at Fox (I think Reilly championed this show as one of his successes) to be granted a stay of cancellation. Hopefully, I'm completely wrong.

Oh! I noticed the Starbuck's bit, but I missed the jail and beheading inversions.

Uh-oh. That would be unfortunate. This season was kind of a mess, but there is a lot to love about this show, and at this point they've pretty much cast off everything that got in the way this season and gone back to basics.

It was great to see New Bern again in the 1780's scenes. They've filmed there quite a lot over the 2 years. I'm hoping for a 3rd season as well. I'd like to see Crane become more aclimated to our time.

I just finished watching on the Fox website and if we're lucky I'm not the only one doing that. Perhaps the online watchers will convince Fox to keep going with Sleepy Hollow. :techman:

If they don't renew then maybe Netflix will snap it up and do a third season. :)

Other than those noted above, my fav scene was when Abbie hugged Captain Crane and he didn't know what to do... followed closely by Abbie telling him not to be so formal in his address.

"What should I call you?"

"LEFTtenant." :bolian: :bolian: :bolian:

That was cute. ^^^

Was I the only one that laughed when Benjamin Franklin was beheaded? It was supposed to be scary and shocking but it just came off as comical to me.

I could've done without the graphic beheading. My minimal tolerance for gore was exceeded by a certain scene involving Fish Mooney in the preceding hour's Gotham, so I really didn't want to see any further discorporation of human body parts.

I really enjoyed the finale. And I'm glad to see the backside of Katrina (no, not in that way). If this is the series finale, we had a great sense of closure while the characters continue to have further adventures.

THis was a blast. I have to admit, other than the Starbucks conversation, and the song and Abbie's close call last week, I didn't pick up on the call backs to the pilot.
I really loved Abbie getting to meet Grace, that was pretty great.
I have to admit I was kind of expecting them to use the time travel as a way for them to make some changes to the present, so I was shocked that Abbie went back to a normal present.
I was also expecting this to be a set up for a Katrina as Big Bad arc, so I was really surprised that they actually killed her at the end.
I forgot that this wasn't a sure thing for next season, but knowing that I can kind of see why they did tie up a lot of the big arcs. As much as I love the show, I could kind of see this working as a series finale. While they didn't really tie up the whole big Apocalypse series arc, I think they did tie up enough that I wouldn't go nuts if this is the end of the series. This would at least be a more satisfactory ending that what we got for Constantine.

Ooh, crazy thought -- what if the Rising Darkness that Constantine is fighting is the Apocalypse that Ichabod and Abbie are fighting??? It would make so much sense! Both shows have pretty similar portrayals of angels, for one thing...

If both shows get canceled... does that mean the Rising Darkness won? :vulcan:

I was caught off guard a little in the beginning

Thanks for reminding me of last night's episode of Gotham. That was rather ... eye-popping.

I love this episode. :D My two favorite scenes were Abby meeting Ben Franklin-- not just for Franklin's delight in the confirmation that all his ideas were brilliant and that he was on the $100 bill, but his affirmation of American values and calling Abby the realization of the American dream (which underlines one of my favorite aspects of the show) and Abby meeting Grace-- especially how quickly Grace understood that Abby was a Witness and that she would be writing the later chapters of the journal.

I was also expecting something in the way of timeline changes, based on the episode description-- right up until the end, I expected some kind of twist ending (along the lines of Bradbury's "A Sound of Thunder"). But I'm not disappointed that it didn't happen.

There was much else to love about the episode: Crane figuring out the iPhone ("slide to open" :rommie: ) and watching the videos (although it's a bit of a plot hole that she didn't just show him that to begin with), Abby kicking the living daylights out of the jailer (or would that be gaoler?), the hug, and generally all the Revolutionary War goodness. And Irving is really okay. I feel kind of bad for Katrina, but they really weren't able to fit her in to the dynamic; it's certainly not the actress's fault.

This was really a great episode. Even if the show isn't renewed, it ended on a high point. But I really hope it gets renewed.

I enjoyed it---was rather hoping they'd spend more time in the past, though. But, as far as "reset button" episodes go, this was a pretty good one.

No, it means...

"We are cancelling the Apocalypse!"

The Apocalypse...will NOT be televised

I hope not! :rommie:

That line makes me think of B'Elanna Torres from ST Voyager's season 2 introduction to Q.

TORRES: "This ship will not survive the formation of the Cosmos!"

I think I'm going to re-watch season 1 Sleepy Hollow on Netflix just to encourage them to pick up the show if Fox doesn't. :bolian:
