Sleep Inducing Movies

I fell asleep during that one Harry Potter movie I had gone to, it just didn't interest me and I was kind of tired to begin with, but it just didn't hold my attention, I've come close on Nemesis (Star Trek) before, but eh, the movie feels a tad to long and LotR can cause issues of I go without a break (as much as I love the movies)

The only time I've ever fallen and stayed asleep during a movie was when I saw Star Trek Nemisis.

If there was ever a movie that I should have fallen asleep at, it is nemesis. But I couldn't; it was like watching a car wreck in process.

When KHAN came out, my local theatre paired it with TMP near the end of its run...so one day I went there at 1030am and stayed until 1130pm watching both movies...actually, I would sleep through TMP (not hard to do) and wake up in time to watch Khan...

Now that I think of it, I fell asleep during Star Trek: the Motion picture the first time I saw it. Granted, I was five at the time. I remember dozing off when they were doing the first fly-by of the enterprise, and waking up when Spock was flying around in his space suit.

I've actually slept during two movies, mostly because I was so exhausted and dragged to see both. The first was The Bourne Ultimatum, which is one of my favorite movies, and kind of ironic since it is such a fast-paced thriller, but I was so tired and I had seen it twice at that point, so I think I snoozed off when Bourne got to Tangiers and woke up with him chasing the other assassin who was chasing Julia Stiles. I struggled to stay awake during that one.

Another one was more recently: Sherlock Holmes, another decently paced movie. I had seen it already but my girlfriend wanted to see it. I was so exhausted from a week's worth of work that I dozed off a few times, and she woke me up before I could really get any sleep, which ended up annoying me.

It sounds like sleeping in the movies has more to do with the exhaustion of the viewer than the slowness of the movie. I have another friend who always falls asleep at the movies, but he commutes from CT to NYC every day, so he's chronically sleep-deprived.

I almost dozed off during a late-night showing of A DAY AT THE RACES once, but I had the flu at the time, so that doesn't count.

On the other hand, the only movie my girlfriend's brother HASN'T fallen asleep during was DISTURBIA. I figure that's high praise indeed!

Not counting 7th grade social studies, Dune is the only one that I can think of, but to fair it was a midnight showing and I went into it pretty tired.

nahhh...sometimes the movies are just too darned slow...doesn't mean they are bad..just slooooooooowww....DUNE was slow. And it wouldn't matter if it was 12 afternoon, STAR TREK THE MOTION PICTURE can put my kids out cold....and me too.

2001, Blade Runner, Fight Club. I think it's a conditioned response or something, because I was either unwell or hadn't slept before seeing each of them for the first time and fell to sleep and now every time I try and watch them I fall to sleep.

The Matrix Reloaded

From Neo and the Oracles talk in the park to CGI fest of a hundred Smith's swarming Neo.

The overload of cgi just makes you so uninterested in the scene you're practically bored to sleep.

Same thing with the last battle in Matrix Revolutions.

Ironically, Sleepless in Seattle. Holy cow - we all know how this has to end, so just get there already!

I've fallen asleep in several movies simply because I was very tired:
Shrek 2, which I actually liked
The Princess and the Forg - Not bad but not terribly great either.
One Fine Day - totally the movie's fault
Twilight - A needed five minute sleep reprieve from two hours of fail.
Terminator Salvation - Just couldn't keep caring

If I'm tired I can fall asleep watching anything. But only three movies have ever put me to sleep more than once.

3) Laurence of Arabia. Great movie, but very slow moving for long periods and the music just puts me right to sleep.

2) 2001. Slow movie combined with that classical score playing over it all? ZZZZZZzzzzzz.

1) The Thin Red Line. To this day I have never been able to finish it. Without fail I pass out before the 30 minute mark.

I fell asleep during the second of the Star Wars prequels. Awful movie, but it had a lot more to do with the fact that it was late and I'd spent the entire day traveling with my family. I don't usually fall asleep on movies, even when I desperately want to. I just sit there and endure it somehow.

The only movie I remember falling asleep during in the theater is The Two Towers, for about the middle third. In my defense, it was the midnight showing on opening night, and I'd been stuck at work all day, so I was dog tired going in. But even now, I have a hard time sitting thru TTT. I don't hate it, but IMHO it feels like a movie with no beginning and no end, it's just kinda... there.

On DVD, when I really want to get to sleep I find almost anything by Stanley Kubrick works well. They are brilliant, beautiful movies. But to say his pacing is deliberate is... an understatement. We picked up Transformers: ROTF from the blockbuster $5 used movies bin and I have yet to make it all the way thru it.

The only movie in the theater that I fell asleep to was Robin Hood Men in Tights. I still haven't seen the whole thing.

I love 2001: A Space Odyssey bit if I'm having trouble falling asleep. it's my go-to dvd. It's my video Sominex ®.

I was an idiot and went to a midnight opening day showing for Terminator Salvation. Somehow I stayed awake... but it was a struggle. Staying up till 2am isn't usually much of a stretch for me though. Hell, it's 2:30am right now!

My friend tried to make me watch Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas when I was pretty tired. I fell asleep damned quickly. Being tired was definitely a factor, but it really seemed like a movie with potential to knock me out cold regardless.

I think I fell asleep during Die Another Day. I'm not much of a Bond guy and some friends dragged me out to watch it. I know I watched a good chunk of it, but aside from remembering some snowy North Korea stuff in the beginning I don't even remember the parts I was awake for, so I'm not 100 percent sure I fell asleep.

Edward Norton's Hulk nearly knocked me out too, but i stayed awake throughout probably thanks to the loud theater surround sound. Had I watched that at home I would have been down for the count.

Fell asleep about a third of the way through the Ang Lee Hulk in the cinema. Last thing I remember is some mutant poodle then next thing I know the credits are rolling everyone's getting up to leave. I gather I didn't miss much. Also fell asleep during Syriana. Nothing against the film have have since watched it on DVD. It was more a case of not being in the right frame of mind combined the kind of film that just plays better at home.
I've also dropped off while trying to watch Primer on DVD. One day I 'll get around to trying it again. Requiem for a Dream too, though with that one I'm not really interested in a second attempt.

Though it may sound factitious, I have before now intentionally put on Star Trek Generations to cure a bought of insomnia. I swear it works almost every time. No joke.
