Sky to shut down Bravo and Channel One

I going to miss watching star trek.
I have given up on warehouse 13 so not to bothered about that.
I'm really fed up of sky having no real competition in the TV market,Wonder how long it will be before we have another life is so unfair because of the BBC speech from one of the Murdock's.

Well did any of you see the speech this year from Mark Thompson? I think he hit the nail squarely on the head. ITV are no longer the biggest commercial TV provider, so OFCOM should turn their sights on Sky, and Sky should step up and start producing a lot more British TV to prove their worth...

ofcom take on sky:guffaw: that will be the day.
Is ofcom paid for though taxes?

^Yeah, I had Sky until about 3 years ago and I decided to get rid when I realised out of the hundreds of channels I was watching maybe 5 shows and decided it just wasn't worth what I was paying.

My father has a full sky package, so if there is anything I want to see I just use Sky Player (thanks dad!).

If only the bastards would do a deal with Sony so I could watch it on the PS3 and then everything would be perfect.

Well it's a QUANGO so I expect it's paid via the government and from any licensing fees and fines it may give out.

I have a media centre I could watch it on there if I had a Sky Player account, but I don't like the idea of paying them £15 a month.

Isn't it about to be mightily trimmed back as well as per cost cutting?

Ofcom has a very nice HQ though, my firm currently has its hq there as well!

Yeah, it's one of the QUANGOs that's going to get a hammering. Then again probably all of them will. I mean on the one hand OFCOM is a joke so yeah might as well cut it, but on the other less regulation probably means everything will go to shit.

I bet sky could give ofcom some office space.
Have you seen this.http://uk.news.yahoo.com/22/20100916/tuk-uk-britain-television-canvas-fa6b408.html
A consortium of British companies said their planned new Web-TV service would be subscription-free, as broadcasters, Web firms and electronics makers scramble to capture a nascent Internet TV market. Skip related content

YouView, a joint venture of seven partners including the state-owned BBC previously known as Project Canvas, said it would charge no subscription for its video-on-demand and catch-up offerings but viewers would have to buy a set-top box.
I wonder what sky will have to say and if this will affect see saw?

This is going to be a complete pain in the butt. There are a few shows I watch through freeview on Channel One.

Typical Sky pettiness. They'd take away BBC1 if they could, claiming 'low ratings'. And I bet Murdock won't like the consequences of muscling in on the regulated TV market by becoming bigger than ITV. Now 'terrestrial' is a thing of the past, the programming requirements on ITV1 and C4 should apply to all commercial freeview channels, no?
