Size Of The New Enterprise (large images)

Guys I have some info. Amearican Model company Round2 has announced that they are releaseing the NU-ENT in 1/2500 scale in 2010, and the people sculpting/molding/making the kit say it will be 1 foot! I measured my 1/2500 ENT-D, and if AMT got it right the first time, The ENT-D model is about 8 inch's. So I'm guessing that if the nu-e is a foot long at that smaller scale, then the ship must really be 700M! Am I making any sense or am I talking giberish?

It means that they are using the number ILM gave them, basically.

No, it's not canon, but my gut tells me that is probably the number we're going end up with, because the model creators are the most authoritative source, and people will keep going to them.

Well, if it's 1/2500 scale and it's a foot long, then the original is supposed to be 2500 feet long. That works out to 762 meters.

Maybe they 2010 delay is for us to finally agree on a size, then they'll publish it.

Here's my Vote (and guesstimate).

Seconded, it's a good size and still makes the Excelsior a bit larger.

This is the 457m (1500ft) that I came up with. I used the docking port as the baseline, assuming they're approximately the diameter. I based that on the reference of the escape pod's dia, being jettionsed from the neck's port.

This would seem to be a more "realistic" workable size.

I like this it looks "right"! why make huge docking ports?

Whoa, whoa there- this high end nu-math transcendental calculus stuff just shot right over our heads :D

Really? It all made sense to me!:D but then again I'm an expert in Jibber Jabber!

Question? have the producers said why they wanted this ship so RIDICULOUSLY HUGE? It's like they took a look at starships from STAR WARS, STAR GATE, MACROSS & BABYLON 5 looked at there ship ( NU-E ) and they got ''STARSHIP'' envy, ans said to themselves ''OH YEAH!? WELL ARE SHIP WILL BE TEN TIMES BIGGER, BADDER, & BETTER THEN ALL'LA YOURZ!

Re: Size Of The New Enterprise

Or it could be about 300meters long and just looks bigger. It never said it's size on screen.

Well, considering that the Kelvin, which is just one primary hull and garage for the hundreds of shuttles necessary for the whole crew to escape, had EIGHT HUNDRED PEOPLE on board, the Big E has to be gihugic.

Yep. The size analysis for the Kelvin a few pages back came to a similar conclusion.

The creative team behind the new Star Trek look decided that the ships had to be bigger to realistically accomodate the kinds of operations depicted in the movie.

There is no in-universe explaination. It just is.

Deal.

They obviously decided to make the ship larger after the design was finished. Window and hull geometry work it out to be larger that the TOS & Refit, but not as big as the Galaxy class. You just cannot enlarge something and call it bigger- it needs to be disigned that way. You would not upscale a fighter palne and call it a stratgic bomber.

Re: Size Of The New Enterprise

How in the word do those supports hold them up when they are only at the very end?

Pssst. Space. Zero gravity.

I've never liked the gigantism in modern Trek or Star Wars or nuBSG, for that matter; just don't. I like the looks of the NCC-1701-D, but not really the scale.

That's my bias. I'd rather serve aboard the C-57D or hitch on Serenity than beam aboard these mega-fanboi specials.

I'm with you. That's why my favorite ship design in the fleet is the Nova class.

While that size would make me much more happy, the shuttlebay in the graphic just wouldn't jive with the shuttle bay in use that we saw on the screen.

QFT.

Next Gen did this with the bloody Klingon Bird of Prey all the time and it drove me batshit.

I think DS9 was the worst on this. There were at least three different BoPs, all identical in external appearance. One was so small you would have to duck walking thorough the "neck." So it's not like this is a new problem.

As for the new E, no matter which way we cut it, there's going to be discrepancies, because they changed the size throughout production to fit the needs of each shot. I still think a length in the neighborhood of 457m causes the fewest problems, though. I find it easier to excuse skinny spaces between decks and fudge the numbers on the viewscreen, than to explain why all the windows are 9 feet tall.

if you count the shuttlecraft in the hanger... it looks like there are two row's on two sides or four rows of seven shuttlecraft...and those arn't small ships... I'm firmly in the starship envy camp where they saw a seven mile long romulan warship (they didn't know at the time it was a mining platform) and they decided they needed much bigger spaceships also. So, I like/prefer the 3000ft model displayed earlier...

and the brewery... that's all the nuclear power cores needed to power the ship at impluse.
