Re: Size Of The New Enterprise

This is how it should look if it was that big, i have made the windows and the airlocks closer to how they should be

Re: Size Of The New Enterprise

Looking at the size chart, the 762m size not only makes sense, its looking like it has to be that.

McCoy says the Doctor who died was on Deck 6, and in the shot previously, the Enterprise was only hit in the neck, and the smaller size means Deck 6 is likely to be located in the neck of the ship.

Re: Size Of The New Enterprise

I noticed that the new Enterprise looked a lot bigger when I saw the movie. Not only did they double or triple the length, but you have to realize what that means in terms of overall volume (not only is it longer, it is taller and wider).

I guess Extenze worked better on the "Big E" than it did for my "Little P". :(

Re: Size Of The New Enterprise

I'm going for smaller and here's why. On the original Enterprise, the bridge is in the top "bubble" of the saucer. On this Enterprise the bridge appears to be in the section below that. If you compare the window/viewscreen from inside and outside views then the ship would be slightly smaller than the original.

Man, after a couple of conventions, the new ship designer is going to wonder why he ever took this job.

Because I am crazy for ships I was looking for this & according to memory alpha the new E is 2500 feet long, saucer diameter is 1100. I forget off hand the height but it is after converting it to meters 762m. Now weather or not this is offical I don't know, but the damn thing is huge.

Re: Size Of The New Enterprise

if you look at the shuttle and cargo bay of the ent d you can see there is quite a lot of space there enough for like 50 shuttles if they did a double deck thing so i don't think that scale is correct. can't be larger than ent d.

Re: Size Of The New Enterprise

Does anybody know if Paramount or whoever is incharge of the publishing rights to Star Trek intends to make a "Tech Manual" based on the movie? It would be interesting to have someone take a more in-depth look at the new Enterprise.

Complaining that the alternate realities Enterprise size is too great simply because it is larger than the Galaxy or Sovereign ignores the fact that this is a reboot, besides I do not think it would be too hard to come up with plausible reasons for the increased size of the ship. For example, you could easily argue that the secondary hull houses the machinery necessary to run the Enterprise, a fact which is supported by several scenes in the movie depicting cavernous areas in the secondary hull. This machinery is large due to the amount of power required to travel at warp, maintain shields, power weapons, etc. Hell, unlike in previous Trek series which always depicted one central warp core in engineering, this universe could have multiple anti-matter reactors per ship just like modern-day air-craft carriers have more than one nuclear reactor. This would leave little room for crew outside of the maintenance staff and access ways to the shuttle bay, so the rest of the ships functions would have to be placed in the saucer and neck. An even easier way to fix the size discrepancy between the Constitution and the Galaxy would be to simply double the size of the Galaxy in the alternate universe.

Has there been any word on when there will be "official" specs/drawings/cutaways on the NuEnterprise released. (So that I can officially gripe )

I'm still kind of confused on the size now since we got "gas lighted" near the end of the movie and the bridge has been moved down & forward.

Now I'm wondering what is in the deck/space above the bridge.

Re: Size Of The New Enterprise

Although it's not an easy way to judge the ship's size, keep in mind that George Kirk saved over 800 lives from the Kelvin. We don't know how many died, but can assume a fair amount. If we assume that the Kelvin had a total crew of 1000 (conservative estimate), that puts in on par with the E-D. If we also assume that the JJ-Enterprise has a saucer the same size as the Kelvin, it's going to be fairly close in size to the E-D (due to the crew size).

Note: the new Enterprise still looks goofy to me. The nacelles are silly looking and the neck is pushed back. Blerg.

Congratulations--that's the first post in this thread that I think we can ALL agree on. :techman:

Wait for it.

I disagree! :scream:

:p ;)

Maybe this will help.

How accurate is that side view, though? Isn't that Bernd's hissy-fit diagram from back when the very first image was released? I'm not sure I'd trust that thing to give us a fair picture of the new ship.

Re: Size Of The New Enterprise

Well given the general idea and from what I could gather the Shuttle bay was rougly 3 decks high, and the celining that we saw was about 10 feet high. That puts the shuttle bay around 30feet high.

Giving 487M long

Making it taller than excelscior and longer
