Sisko v. Borg

I've read or heard an interview where one of the main guys behind DS9 said something like:

"We were told not to use the Borg because Voyager was going to use them. But that was fine with me, I like our bad guys better."

So did I!

And in the long run I wasn't really happy with how the Borg turned out after The Queen's appearance in FC.

Just a little off topic, the other day i picked up and re-read Peter David's "Vendetta" (PrePre FC) and I have to say the Bor were more frightening back then. All he had to go on was the TNG's Take on the Borg post TBOBW. :borg:

DS9 handled their bad guys much better. :D

It would be hard to write in the Borg coming to DS9 when theya always seemed interested in going straight to Earth and assimilating it. It never seemed like the Cardassians or Bajorans were of any concern with the Borg. I guess the writers could have made a Borg episode the first few seasons before Voyager was even conceived of, but they didn't.

I think an artificially created wormhole, likely the only one of its kind harbouring advanced beings is more than enough to secure the curiosity of the Borg.

I never really thought the Dominion were as interesting as the Borg (before the Borg were overdone, anyway). Neither were as interesting as the Cardassians, though, and when Weyoun became the smiling, smarmy face of the Gamma Quadrant the Dominion became just that much more interesting.

Still, I think DS9 handled the Borg excellently in their first and only appearance. We got to see a steely Sisko in a hopeless battle, the ship he's serving on destroyed, his wife dead. But more importantly, his exchange with Picard:

'Have we met?'
'Yes sir. In battle.'

It was nice to know that Picard's own time as the face of public enemy number one hadn't been forgotten. ;)
