Single nacelled research vessel

Single nacelled ships always look weird to me. Like they couldn't afford to get another nacelle.

Trek physics aside, how is it any different than single-engine aircraft vs 2, 3, 4 engines? Some craft just do not need the extra power or perhaps do not have the energy supplies available for the power required for more nacelles.

If you can lower the cost of construction of a vessel, with not a lot of drawbacks (save for speed), why not? I at least did that with my Standard Civilian Frame, while one can assume that, indeed, they couldn't afford an extra nacelle...

Small update. More interesting underside to be seen!

What I like about this design, is unlike other single nacelle ships this one doesn't look like it's missing a nacelle. It looks like it was designed to only have the one from the outset.

Curious about this actually......
It's mainly the Prometheus that I'm working on now. But if you go to one of my older Challenge posts, you'll find the supercarrier I made. The nacelles of that one are going to be the basis for my TOS Galaxy.

That was my main gripe with a lot of other single-nacelle ships. So that's where the idea for this one came from yeah!

I've found a bit of time to test out some stuff, so here goes!

This is coming along nicely. I love the shape of the blue glowy grill on the nacelle - the way it slides along the side before ducking under then back up along the other side! I'm guessing the two pylons up top are sensor platforms of some sort?

- I remember that supercarrier - it's amazing!

Work on this has continued steadily; I just didn't post anything. But since I was doing the Arboretum, I also took a stab at the bridge. As y'all can see it's still pretty low lighting. I've taken the Intrepid design as a base and worked from there, as I've seen a lot of pseudo-Sovereign, -Prometheus and -Galaxy bridges, but for some reason or another the Intrepid isn't used a lot. So there's that. The Intrepid bridge was more in the width, but this bridge has more stuff in the length, which IMHO gives it a very cozy vibe. There's some white dots present in the render but I don't really know where these artefacts came from...

I love the bridge layout, but I believe that there are too many railings as it looks very busy, perhaps too busy to me at least. And that could be due to that perspective actually.

Oh, I didn't intend to Santa ;-)

So, a long awaited (I think) update to the ship itself:

Looking at it like this, I think I need to increase the amount of escape pods... This whole bridge as posted before will fit inside that dome on top, with space left for the conference room aft of the bridge (it'll probable be behind the turbolift which will be positioned in the centreline just aft of the bridge) and the ready room in front of it. Good times!

Hmm, you can fit a few more on the underside of the saucer section I guess, she's coming along nicely in any case. :mallory:

Pretty cool. The wings reminds me of the car form the early 70s that NASCAR banned. :)

The one design element I wish was different is the warp drive. I think I would prefer if it dropped down some instead of extruding straight back out of the body. I don't mean with a goose-neck like the Saladin but rather with a notch-back on top and with the bottom being even with the belly pod (hope that makes sense). Overall, I do like it. Great work. :techman:
