Signs that autumn has arrived.

Autumn is that special time of the year when the big peanut butter filled Halloween Reese pumpkins show up. It also signifies that I'm not too far away now from the Reese Christmas trees.

The weather is nicer because you're not dying from heat.

I was thinking that last week, when it was in the 70's.

This week it's back in the 90's & I work in a building I lovingly refer to as the "concrete monstrosity" which builds up & stores heat really really well.

It seems that autumn has come early for Seattle. Shortly before the end of August it became cool and overcast, with a lot of rain.

In the past the last sunny/mild day of the year might have been the end of September.

Oddly enough, July was unusually hot and dry.

For me, Fall signs are vivid blue skies, grey clouds and the smell of brand-new clothes. That last one is just my mind associating school clothes shopping as a kid and the season it preceded.

Tim, I'm celebrating the rain's return. To me it feels wonderful. We'll get some more warm days before the end of this month.

I know it's autumn when I get off work and the sun is gone. The only thing I miss about summer is being able to go home and enjoy an hour or so of daylight.

For me, the leaves turning yellow and the morning chill while I walk to work.

However, it is still very hot here (~35°C) and since I cannot leave the city I want authomn to get here as soon as possible!

Keys that jingle in your pocket
Words that jangle in your head
Why did Summer go so quickly
Was it something that you said?
Lovers walk along a shore
And leave their footprints in the sand
Was the sound of distant drumming
Just the fingers of your hand?
Pictures hanging in a hallway
Or the fragment of a song
Half remembered names and faces
But to whom do they belong?
When you knew that it was over
Were you suddenly aware
That the Autumn leaves were turning
To the colour of her hair

That's lovely and evokes feelings of mild *regret* (seems too strong a word).

Is it original?

Cool mornings, tolerable afternoons, anticipating young wine (freshly harvested wine which is not totally fermented yet), onion tart, chestnuts and pumpkins.

Windmills of Your Mind

Regret, memory... that moment of melancholy contemplation as you remember the one that got away.

You go for a walk, need the umbrella in order not to ge drenched AND the sunglasses not to get blinded by the direct sunlight...

(And two minutes later your brolly does the inside out-maneouver and becomes useless plus your sunglasses get soo wet that they're useless as well).
