Sigh... I'm ashamed to admit it...

I saw Ray Park in Fanboys the other night and I literally cheered when words came out of his mouth. I think he was so hard done over to be dubbed and silenced in Phantom menace but...

In GI Joe?

Snake Eyes is arguably the leading role... but mute.

So fucking funny.

Thing is, a movie called "the Rise of Cobra" should be handled by some one like Oliver Stone or/and Chris Carter as they plaster every freaky tidbit tidbit of superstition and Illuminati buillshit they can get away with to make it look like a thousand years of destiny coming to fruition.

I hate it when I say Illuminate, and people reply: "Like in Tomb Raider?"

These are the people i need to cut out of my life.

What the fuck happened to Stephen Sommer's brain that he went from writing "Catch me if you can?" to Van Hielsing" in just 6 years... 6 years? Wait? that's not right.

O.

A completely different movie called catch me if you can.

Bugger me.

Remember that RISE of Cobra is exactly what is meant. This is pretty much a prequel movie and the start of the franchise. I'm not expecting anything decent in terms of acting and dialoge, one because I already read the novel and it was pretty bad and two this is a action movie. The Baroness looks spectacular and Sienna Miller seems like she's actually enjoying herself in this film. I'm just looking forward to seeing Destro being taken down and his company and assets taken over by Cobra Commander at the end of the movie.

Well I played with GI Joe toys when I was little too..being in the military now...I just go to the movies to see how much military crap hollywood comes up with. But its not even half as funny as when people actually believe the crap hollywood sells to them. lol!

What Im really wondering is where did they come up with accelerated suits?? I might have been too young but I dont remember that in the cartoons??????

Well, that because in the cartoons they just used steroids.

Sounds more like Captain Power or the Centurians.

they're a new invention. and like i said, both the British and American armies are really trying to develop exoskeletons that enhance a soldier's strength to enable him to lift or carry more or to be ale to run faster or for longer. it's not that unrealistic when this movie's reportedly set in the near future.

Lift more or run faster! They're not going to be playing fucking Dodgeball with rocket-propelled munitions!

As for the OP, there's no shame in admitting you're going to see a crap movie. It's like volunteering to see a chick flick. As long as you know what you're getting into going in, it's all good.

someone explain to me why the accelrator suits are any different to Iron Man's armour? people accept that, but can't accept these.

and don't give me any 'oh, but Iron Man's a super hero' bullshit.

I don't know why anyone should be ashamed to go see the G.I. Joe movie. I've already read the novelization to the movie, and if it's anywhere near that, it's going to be a good popcorn movie. Even though I grew up with these characters, I'm not a purist and I like the different spins they've taken with them. I could care less if G.I. Joe was an American team in comics and cartoons, because it works extremely well as an international team within the context of the movie (once again, going by the novelization).

But some people really want to see the movie fail for some reason, but I think the movie will strike the right balance of action, drama, dry humor, and the occasional over-the-top military hardware that G.I. Joe has always been known for.

I'm already hoping for a sequel...

I'd say because the accelerator suits aren't part of GI Joe's "mythos" is why people gripe about them. I gripe about them because they're an obvious, to me, attempt to "cheap out" on the SFX by not having to animate humans but just to create these moving Halo rip-offs.

This is about expectations.

When I shelled out my money to see Iron Man on the big screen, I expected to see Iron Man. What I saw was indeed Iron Man, which means Jon Favreau apparently got the point of the exercise.

So if i'm going to shell out more money for a movie called GIJOE, what I expect to see is a bunch of Americans in variations on American military clothes and gear driving around crazy ass vehicles and shooting at guys in bright blue union suits driving their own crazy ass vehicles.

Guess what I don't expect to see? That's right...IRON MAN! or Batman! Or Terminator, or Sealab 2020, or any of the other things Sommers ripped-off to make GIJOE a typical action film! He had assloads of great source material to draw from and he did crap with it, but I should just accept that he's got people jumping around like frogs wearing metal boxes???

Please!

And yet there was battle armor in G.I. Joe that make the Delta-VI accelerator suits look tame and tasteful in comparison--Cobra Snake Battle Armor and the frakkin' huge two-story Space Bridgade Armor Bot are only two examples out of many ridiculous battle armor worn by both Joes and Cobra alike during the history of the franchise.

G.I. Joe has always had a slightly campy aspect to it due to it being based on a toyline, and the Delta-VI accelerator suits are the closest thing to a nod towards that end of the franchise, IMO...

Somehow I don't think Star Brigade is what most people think of when they remember GI Joe.

Then they are in denial because quite a lot of "silly" stuff from the toyline has been incorporated into the G.I. Joe mythos since the very beginning of the ARAH era.

Hasbro wouldn't want it any other way...
