Exactly. I can be a strong, independent individual who likes Star Trek, football (Arsenal)... and at the same time drools over men and shaves her legs.

Well, I'm a woman and didn't find anything remotely offensive about the movie. In fact, if I'd had my way, we'd've seen not only Pine but Quinto and Urban without their shirts on too.
It would have been ridiculous for Uhura to get involved in that bar fight. She's way too smart for that, and I don't see why her having a relationship with someone detracts from her as a character? The miniskirts don't bother me. I wish I had the legs to pull off that look, but alas I have short rather stumpy legs. I'd NOT look good in one.

I long for a world like Amsterdam. Anyone, feminist or not, who shares that dream is okay be me.
But anyone who longs for a world where they "have the option" of suing me just because a date didn't work out, or to marry/divorce me withing a short time span solely so she could have 20+ years of "free money" (alimony) is a danger to the entire social world.
Most feminists aren't like that at all, but a few are, and it only takes 1 bad apple to spoil the bunch.

No, if you were supposed to be insulted then you would be. I am attempting to tell you that your use of the English language is not helping you. If you do not wish to accept that advice then that is your problem.
You just used a perfect example of what I'm talking about. Slow down when you type. If you communicate more clearly then people will understand you more easily.
I'm not going to put you on ignore and I'd draw a warning for myself if I told you I was going to. Ignoring you won't help you see why quite a few of us in this thread are not particularly impressed with your views.
That's not true. Humans have this ability called empathy. I do not need to be a woman to see the things my sister goes through. I do not need to be black to see that some people treat black people badly.
However, if what you are suggesting is true then the author of the article cannot possibly have a clue how the male mind works as she and many other so-called feminists claim to. It would have to work both ways.
We do understand what the author of the article is saying, we just believe it is incorrect and, more to the point, she is insulting and demeaning Uhura as a character and Zoe Saldana as an actress and as a person. In her attempts at finding fault with the movie, she shows that she believes that attractiveness and competence in women are mutually exclusive. I don't think any sane person thinks that's true.
We didn't "need" it. We didn't "need" a new Star Trek movie at all. Human civilisation would not have ended without a new movie. What this movie is receiving so much praise for is that it brings back the core of the characters we Star Trek fans fell in love with. Uhura was always presented as an emotional, loving person and Spock was always presented as someone who did feel but could not find a way to express it - look at his relationship with Christine Chapel. Even if she and Spock were not a couple, Uhura would have still been there for Spock because he just lost his mother, his home and almost his entire race.

And now we have an Uhura who could take command. In this version, she's easily the best person to take over command if Spock and Kirk are out of action. I know they have Sulu taking over in the movie, but outside of a situation of immediate combat I'd pick Uhura.

In that department, of all of Star Trek's female characters that's where Uhura was perhaps the most realistic.
Remember, Kira didn't just beat up guys twice her size, she did it while only days from her due date.

It was a fairly minor scene...Kirk is re-established as a fun loving womanizer (perhaps a character flaw eh)...and Uhura winds up in her underwear...well Kirk was TOO. Why does SF have to be so prudish that it has to be different from every other drama or action film and not acknowledge that human beings are sexual and sometimes wind up without their clothes!?
What's wrong with Spock and Uhura??? Its a different timeline and SPOCK'S DAD married a human female as a full Vulcan. They must have had sex. They must have had theirclothes off at one point.

Who's to say Spock/Uhura weren't lovers in TOS as well? Maybe that scene in The Man Trap is Uhura trying to re-seduce Spock after he dumped her when he finally decided to permanently abandon emotions.
I totally agree. Sulu and Chekov came off as either bumbling incompetent or too young/inexperienced to be in command. And Scotty was nothing more than comic relief. Uhura should almost certainly 3rd in command at this point, in my book.
