Sick and Tired....

I just don't like the idea of remakes of old tv shows or movies in general and I like the idea a remake of something that I am very fond of like Star Trek even less. But what I've heard about this plot of this movie is even worse then just a straight remake. Abrams should have just done a straight remake and just come clean about it with Trek fans and not try to be cute.
You have nothing, you know nothing. It's not a remake, it takes place before the 5 year mission.

You talk like you have some insight with vague claims like "...what I've heard." What the crap is that?

I'll be impressed when you post a script for the new film and not until then. It's getting ridiculous with you, man. While you're at it, why don't you complain about the new X-Men movie that hasn't been released either? And not for nothing, not every thread is your opportunity to bash the new flick. This is completely OT. Stay in Trek XI and complain, will ya? You're getting boring.

And for the record, Trek fans like you seriously need to get over themselves. I'm less concerned about continuity and more concerned about a quality movie that does well and jumpstarts the franchise.

You're concerned about Abrams killing Trek? Are you flippin' kidding me? Trek is dead and has been for 3 years and was on life support for 10 years before that!

I'm not about to accept a reboot just for the sake of having more Star Trek.
I'm not that desparate for more Trek.
And yes this is on topic.
The original poster is complaining about fans who complain about the state of Star Trek.
I'm just jumping in to say that I'm going to complain if I'm not happy about something about Trek. Whether it is this new movie or something else.

I guess you can interpret people complaining about VOY and ENT as a discussion about Santa Claus too, if you really want to.

This is nonsense. This thread is not about fans complaining about the state of Star Trek. The only person doing that is you. The state of Trek implies a current condition. The last time I checked, VOY's last episode was in 2001 and ENT's was in 2005. These are the only shows the poster was referring to.

How about just accepting the new movie based on its merits and waiting to pass judgment until it's released? You don't even know what you're not happy about. You sound like all of these goofballs back in 1987 who were having a fit because Trek was coming back to TV without Kirk, Spock and McCoy. Times have changed, Trek needs to be updated. If it doesn't fly it doesn't fly but complaining about it without anything to go on is just silly.

Scurry on back to Trek XI, now, Junior, and annoy them, please.

Voyager wasn't a bad series, but it bored me for one reason or another. I simply can't quite seem to get into it.

Almost the same here. It started out pretty good, but then I started finding it imminently forgettable and I couldn't find the interest to keep watching. Especially after Seven of Nine showed up, and it became so obviously pandering to her physical attributes.

Then, when I heard about the 'Borgy Bunch'... *oy*

I tuned into the finale, just to see how it would end, and then was just... sad.

Cheers,

i like all of the Trek shows, i just don't like all the episodes.

and some i like more than others.

Voyager was weaker than DS9. ENT is nowhere near being as bad as a lot of people make out.

and don't even get me started on all that retarded 'ENT fucks up continuity' crap. even TOS couldn't keep its damn facts straight.

Voyager and Enterprise just didn't work for me. I gave them lots of chances, but I just didn't like them on the whole. (VOY certainly had its share of good episodes along the way; I loved "Year of Hell" and a lot of the EMH-centered episodes.) But I don't go around belittling people who did like those shows, so I really don't get that.

The only Trek I can honestly say I "hated" was Nemesis, because TNG was what I'd grown up on, and that film was just so thoroughly disappointing on every level except the visual effects.

Now see, that is the exact thing why I made this post. My opinion is "almost" that of MattJC of this new movie, and yet you get people that put others down for thier god-given right of free speech and thier own personal opinion. Nobody knows if this movie will bomb and that will eventually close the lid on the phenomona that we have "loved" over 40 yrs. Or that it will be a HUGE success and will draw that 'normal' movie-going folk to be viewers. (Although, IMHO I don't see that happening. notice I said IMO?)

Another very good example of this is 'someone' in thier own superiority of king of opinions placed some tags on my post. :wtf:

Nope. I just don't see a purpose in tearing it apart before it's been released especially in a thread which is discussing the unwarranted bashing of VOY and ENT. I personally agree with everything you've said about VOY and ENT and although I do have some concerns about the new movie, I'm mostly optimisitic about it but I freely admit that I can't give informed and concrete opinion on it until May 8, 2009 and neither can anyone else. The pessimism is one thing and I can understand that to an extent but what is particularly annoying is the outright bashing of the film and everyone involved in it with nothing to go on but idle specualtion.

So in a sense, I guess MattJC is correct that his opinons of Trek XI are related to this thread in that what he's doing to the new flick is exactly what you complain about regarding the unfair bashing of VOY and ENT.

Another thing, too. You've said
...you get people that put others down for thier god-given right of free speech and thier own personal opinion.
and you were obviously referring to me, however you need to be corrected. First no one is being put down for exercising 'their god given right to free speech' or their 'personal opinion.' Your statements would seem to imply that anyone can say anything they want on these boards without fear of scrutiny or anyone else disagreeing with them. Hmmmm... isn't that a bit of a double standard? MattJC is allowed to exercise his freedom of speech rights (BTW, 'Freedom of Speech' rights are given by man, not God, in my country in a little document called the U.S. Constitution, but I digress) but you don't think that myself or anyone else should to disagree with him? That would make for a pretty boring (and unfair) forum, don't you think?

No, your opinion is just as important as his/hers. I am talking about this:

Although I have seen worse o both sides, That is why I made this post.

At times, some of the more recent Trek can be ciriticized a bit too harshly. However, TOS, TNG, and DS9 are the pinnacles of Trek. Voyager is a decent show, but but falls short of the previous three. Enterprise is only enjoyable in its fourth season.

Yeah. That about sums it up nicely.
I disagree. TOS is pure classic and I love it (save a few episodes that I can't even stomach to watch). TNG is nowhere near as glorious as too many say it is. Does it have great episodes? Yes. Does it have crap? Yup, and far more than it gets blamed for. DS9 found its voice a few seasons in and I consider it far superior to TNG. VOY also found its footing after the first two seasons, and while ENT's first couple of seasons were a bit uneven in spots, the cast was excellent and the characters (including recurring characters) are the most appealing and have the best chemistry since TOS.

This thread is not about MattJC's opinion of the new Trek movie. Can we please try and keep it on topic.

I don't think Voyager is perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but then neither was Star Trek, my favourite incarnation of the series. That had far more ropey episodes than voyager (in % terms) so Janeway and co should get a few breaks. I have listed my gripes about Voyager in another thread and they are so minor thay hardly bear mentioning.
