Sick and Tired....

Captain Mike

After watching some VOYAGER episodes lately, along with some other episodes of modern TREK I just can't understand some of us fans saying just how bad TREK has gotten. There was some magnificent shows that actually pulled at your heart strings, or gotten you to laugh so hard to bring a tear. Anyone else agree?

At times, some of the more recent Trek can be ciriticized a bit too harshly. However, TOS, TNG, and DS9 are the pinnacles of Trek. Voyager is a decent show, but but falls short of the previous three. Enterprise is only enjoyable in its fourth season.

When it comes to Trek movies however, the TOS movies easily triumph over the TNG movies. The only clunkers among the TOS movies are TMP and TFF, and even they have enjoyable aspects to them. Meanwhile the only TNG movie I enjoy is Generations. Yes, that's right, I said I like Generations. Also, Nemesis isn't bad as long as you don't think about it while you watch it.

I disagree with your VOYAGER assumption. I have always read that it was the "techcnobabble" that has been the downfall of most of the scripts. Not for me....I was and am in the group that finds that kind of thing sort of interesting. But when the story is compelling it doesn't matter to WTF they solve the problem or even how they came up with it, it is the future after all. I know I would just love that kind of future for us as humankind. :techman:

I was kinda 50/50 on VOY when it first aired. I am rediscovering the show in reruns on Spike and finding that some episodes were really good, better than I had given them credit for. I am also "rediscovering" ENT on Sci-Fi. Mind you, I liked that show from the beginning. Every season had something different to offer, and while there were some lackluster episodes to be sure, the series seems to be aging pretty well. TOS only ran three seasons and had its share of clunkers. I think the way some treat TOS as the Sacred Scroll of Sci-Fi is getting kind of old and tired. Some TOS episodes just weren't that great and had the show ran for a few more years, there would have been more clunky episodes and I don't think we would be talking about an enduring franchise today. The big "what if" of its premature cancellation is one of the prevailing factors that have kept fans interested for so long.
I am a Star Trek fan. I always get excited when I hear that they're going to do a new one and I always hope I enjoy what winds up on the screen. Sometimes I'm thrilled, sometimes I've been disappointed. One thing about Star Trek, good and bad, is that it has never ceased to entertain.

I think the naysayers fail to concede that in their final analysis. The constant whine and moan fest gets old and tired.

Thank you Number Six....I have a fond recollection of having some disagreeable opinions in the past. Am glad to see we do agree on "some" things. Maybe there is some hope in all of us..:vulcan:

I'm glad you feel that way. This statement goes to the root of the nature of my personal fandom for Trek. Anyone who knows me, likes me, hates me, agrees with me or disagrees with me will never change that fundamental concept.

I understand an occasional gripe about a detail or even an entire episode, but the series bashing is just inexplicable to me.

We live in a time in which many people think that if every episode is not perfect than the series is trash. While Voyager is my least favorite ST series I still consider it good, and better than most non-ST SciFi series I have watched.

I quite agree with the OP... I've never actually hated a Trek series. Some episodes seem to fall flat from time to time, but overall I enjoy the shows and care about the characters. Even my least favorite Trek series always managed to offer plenty to enjoy.

I find people who claim to be fans but who spend all their time pissing all over every aspect of each series or movie quite tiresome.

I'm sorry but seeing as I'm not happy with the new movie, I will keep bitching about that.

And everyone will keep ignoring you. :techman:

I feel much the same way. Though I personally think that Enterprise was the weakest of the Trek series I will still stop when it's on and watch it if it is an episode I enjoy. Especially ones from the fourth season (one I wish I had on DVD). I've never understood the completed hatred and vitrol some fans have for series like Voyager or Enterprise. Or even worse, the "nuTrek is Not. Trek." types.

Likewise. I simply don't get how someone can possibly claim to "hate" a TV show. :wtf: That's all they are - TV shows, not matters of life and death. Turn off the damned TV or change the channel if it doesn't appeal to you. It's that simple.
Or even worse, the "nuTrek is Not. Trek." types.
I have nothing polite to say about those people. :p
