Shows networks wish they didn't cancel

I'm watching Hand of God (Great cast, hot asses, lacks focus) and I was thinking about how much ABC would love to have back Body of Proof. ABC canceled it, brought it back, canceled it and wanted it back but Dana Delany told them to go to hell. The way ABC dramas are they probably would like Forever back too. Fox would like Firefly back, Showtime wishes it kept Stargate. I'm curious to what other shows NETWORKS (Not you the viewer) wish they kept.

In the UK ITV did a pilot for a comedy show called men behaving badly which they did not pick up.
BBC remade it with a few cast changes and became quite popular.

I believe that CBS had some second thoughts about canceling KOLCHAK: THE NIGHT STALKER back in the day, especially after the late-night reruns did well in the ratings.

Or so I've heard . . ..

What about shows dumped by one network only to be picked up by another? Sometimes I wonder how the original network feels about continuing success of a show it dumped.

In Canada, CityTV had a show called Murdoch Mysteries. It was a fairly good success for them, running at 5 seasons. It's a smaller network that not everyone had though, so the show didn't have the exposure it really needed. After 5 seasons, which was a good run, they decided to cancel it. In comes CBC, our national network, which picks it up to broadcast it on their network, which has a much wider reach. CBC has produced an additional 5 seasons to the already existing 5. And it's only now just beginning to feel like they're losing steam.

Another show I wonder about is Due South. I think CBS gave up on it too early. They had a great thing going and it developed a cult following and further seasons after CBS dropped it.

Well that's why I bring up Stargate. The Showtime president canceled it and a few years later was fired (He was anti sci-fi.) and the new president wish they could have gotten it back.

But look at JAG, it ran for several seasons after NBC canceled it and CBS picked it up. No one seems to have ever seen it, or admit to watching it, HOWEVER NCIS came out of JAG so NBC is probably like "Shit, all we have is Chicago Shit shows".

My sister loves Due South, I have no clue why. I haven't seen an episode in MANY years.

Not quite. ITV did a full series, then a second with Neil Morrisey taking over from Harry Enfield.
Then ITV cancelled it, which producer Beryl Vertue announced while accepting an award for best comedy series on live tv, and then the BBC picked it up.

Well, like I said, it had a cult following. It was a really great show, and I feel ahead of its time. . Instead of being gritty and serious, it had a lot of humour. Those who like it tend to like it a lot.

While it had a longer run than most cancelled shows, I bet Fox regrets cancelling Futurama considering how successful it became over at Comedy Central.

I suppose the classic example here is BAYWATCH, which started out a network show, got cancelled, then became the most popular show in the world via syndication.

Nope. Fox didn't care about Futurama at all, and CC ratings weren't that great. If Fox wanted they had the right to first airings over CC, but they didn't care about it at all. They just wanted someone to buy more episodes so they could sell more in syndication.

If you are going to make a joke you should get the network right. BOTH SHOWS, yes there was a remake, were on ABC and not CBS. :p

I proudly admit I own all ten seasons of JAG. It's a Bellisario show with lots of Star Trek references that uses every second of Top Gun and Red October b-roll 27 times over. What's not to like?

Due South is one of my all-time favorites. It asks the age-old question: Are you a Raysier or a Raysier?

Kidding aside, the soundtrack is excellent. It oozes 90s pop-blues goodness. (Not to mention an awesome remix of "On the Run." And, frankly "Victoria's Secret" remains some of Haggis's best writing to date, which is saying something.

I'll bet Fox regretted cancelling Firefly after it was picked up by Sci-Fi and went on to air six more glorious seasons.

Wait, what?

Oops. You're right that I got the network wrong, but I wasn't making a joke. ABC did end up airing reruns of THE NIGHT STALKER as late-night programming at one point, and the ratings were good enough to make them reconsider cancelling it.

As for the ill-conceived reboot . . . I'm not sure anyone misses that. :)

Sigh..... Right?? In a perfect world...

Count me in as another fan of Due South.. That was appointment TV for me.. Love the acting and the soundtrack.. Definitely axed before its time.

I'm a Raysier. First one ;)

Hah, yeah, Ray and Fraser had great chemistry. One of the best buddy-cop dynamics on TV. Haggis definitely was at his peak with this series. One thing it had going for it is that it really was quite unique. And it's true, it had a great soundtrack, most of it sung by Paul Gross himself who's a fairly good musician in his own right. Makes me wonder what might have been had CBS hadn't chosen to cancel it. It's perhaps too late now, but I'd love to see it come back as a bunch of TV movies.

Ditto. If memory serves, it ran for one season on NBC then nine on CBS. If you can't be bothered with the DVDs, I think it's on several days a week in the UK (though nowhere near as much as NCIS. I think that currently airs on at least three different channels every week)

Loved Due South too.
