I didn't take it personally when you insulted my tattoos, because I figured you weren't being intentionally mean or malicious -- you've never struck me as that kind of guy. However, now, after people have pointed out that it was inappropriate to make such comments about my tattoos, you've gone and done it again. Combining a sexual comment with an insult about a woman's body is hugely sexist and highly offensive. I thought you did it to me out of obliviousness -- now I'm not so sure. I find your comments distasteful, but I wouldn't be surprised if jamestyler and his (or her) sister found them hurtful as well. This thread is about sharing and enjoying body art. If you're not into it, that's cool, but you don't need to cast aspersions on those of us who are. A backhanded compliment is no compliment at all.

I just don't "get" tattoos. I don't understand why someone would want to put a large, huge, permanent work of art on their skin. I don't get it.

Well, I certainly don't get people who do it for flippant reasons and get the woody woodpecker or tweety bird tattoo that 500,000 other people get, or folks that get them whilst drunk (or the person that does the work on anyone not in their right mind).
There's clearly an assertion of one's individuality; whether or not you "get it" you must admit that it does say something when someone gets a picture permanently drawn on their body.
Likewise for piercings. When I got my nipple re-done the guy sprayed some freezy stuff on it which confused me. When I told him that I had it done 10 years prior without anaesthetic he looked at me funny and asked if I was into S&M -- at the time I had it done no one was doing that and frankly, if it was completely painless via topical anaesthetic I wouldn't have done it. Not because I'm into pain, but because it has the trappings of a rite of passage to me and the pain is a trial.

Indeed. And atleast TSQ's and J's sister's tattoos are art and have meaning and aren't tweety bird or something else silly.
But all I can do is just shrug, shake my head, and say I don't get it.
Well, I'm impressed with the number of people that have tattoos and there's some really nice stuff here or I wouldn't have felt compelled to post my own pics.
With regard to tattoo care, I've had one covered almost until it healed, I've had one without any lotions at all open to the sky, I've tried not washing them in the shower and I've washed them in the shower.
The last one I got I used something recommended by the artist which was like neosporin and promoted healing and it was good in a week; put it on every hour or whenever it felt dry and it worked a treat.
Ultimately I'd say it's really down to personal preference -- though I wouldn't pick at the scabs lest you take off some colour (though I've done this as well without ill-effect) -- and if you don't want to take special precautions you'll probably be fine, though I expect it will take longer to heal. I would take care as initially proscribed: keep it covered for the first few hours to ensure bleeding has stopped, gently wash off the initial slimy layer and let it air dry to ensure a scab has formed.

Everything was done in Fife, Angel Art if I remember correctly. The guy moved studios, but I don't know if he's under the same name/banner.
I'm hunting out studio's in Glasgow, trying to find the best one. Too many are recommended to me.
Thats part what put me off for so long, it took me years to design something that I could look at and think it was 'me'. Though as an aside to that I had to be careful about how it would look with work... and now it's designed I just need to fund it (damn financial climate

Look the way I see it is, god gave me a beautiful canvas on which to paint, scar, and mark up. It tells a story of my life as I go and I am not ashamed of my scars, I love them for what they are, the marks of life. A tattoo is just an intentional mark to tell a story better. It will stay with me for life and unlike the scars on my knees from sports or my hands from cooking, it wont fade away and become invisible. It will stay with me for life, and it will be a constant reminder to me how strong I am and that I can make it through everything and anything god throws at me.
I've considered getting a tattoo, but it's a case of finding the right design for me first.

A lot of people don't understand what motivates some one to get tattooed. There are many different reasons people do it, but for me it's simple: I think they're beautiful. I love the idea of making art a part of my body, and it thrills me just thinking about expanding the art I've already had done to reflect even more of my personality. There are plenty of ways to express oneself, and this is one I enjoy.

FWIW your tatts are very nice and better than most I've seen and they're nice works of art on someone who is already a work of art herself.
Well, it was a 10g ring that was in for over a year and the hole didn't close, so no biggie, actually.
Well, other than having to sit down when I pee to avoid dribbling (apologies if too much information), I quite enjoy the aethetics of it. I seriously considered getting an ampallang (the crossbar through the upper part of the glans), but that eventually gets rejected by the body and has to be redone. It seemed like it would be quite an intense experience to go through which made me morbidly curious -- not enough to do it over and over again, though!
Indeed my wife has a massive scar on her lower leg from repeated surgeries due to breaks and decided she wanted to get some flowering twigs there with a butterfly Japanese-style. It's quite a nice tattoo and a good cosmetic solution I think.
Less painful than getting my ear pierced. The only issues were the awkwardness of having to wrap tissue and wear a sock for several days due to the amount of bleeding (lot of blood vessels, as you can imagine) and the fact that I was riding a bicycle on my daily commute for many miles, was, uncomfortable. The result is beauty, however.
