Should T'Rul have been a recurring character

Yeah, T'Rul was wasted opportunity but the show had enough character storylines going on by that point so I can see why they didn't pursue it. The scenes between Kira and Cretak in Image in the Sand/Shadows and Symbols could have been adapted for T'Rul easily - the jumja stick discussion was the first really "you could kick back and relax with this person" Romulan scene we've had.

True. If she disagrees.

OTOH, it's not that unlikely that T'Rul's more personal involvement in the war might garner her support for pulling the Romulans into the war.

Even if she supported Romulus entering the war, she'd probably be unhappy about a senator being lied to and then murdered...

Though she might be pragmatic about it as a "necessary evil". I could see it going either way since we didn't get a great deal of insight into the character.

I only saw DS9 after VOY, so seeing Martha Hackett as T'Rul I assumed that although she might be an interesting recurring character they already had plans for her as Seska. Though they could have re-cast either role. Which leads me to Megan Cole's Creetak, who I thought was a breath of fresh air (similar to the Cardassian scientists in earlier season and the travelling Vulcans in ENT) and wished she'd stayed longer. Barbeau is a great performer in same role, but she's so different and for me more conventionally Romulan I just wish they'd made her a new character entirely.

When they were figuring out their final season and realizing the new Dax had to be female because Kira was their only other female regular, I sort of wish they had solved that problem by making Cretak their new regular. She certainly would have fit more organically with the storytelling -- that season I spent as much time wondering "why is there no Romulan Martok on this show?" as I did asking "why am I watching Ezri solve crimes?" A new (male?) Dax could have still shown up for a guest spot or arc.

This. Unfortunate because I really liked T'Rul. Much like Martok, she was one of the few Klingon/Romulan/Vulcan characters who went just enough beyond stereotype to seem unique and believable while still appearing 'alien'.

"why am I watching Ezri solve crimes?"

Preach! Also, let's face it, they didn't just need a female - they needed an attractive female.

No way was this:

Going in over this:

EDIT: Just thought I should say I'm talking more about the characters here than the actresses themselves.
