Should they have odan been in troi's body instead of riker'

Or anybody elses?

Why do you pick Troi out from the entire cast? Is there something specific that her character could have brought to the story that Riker didnt? And no, I don't mean the whole lesbian issue, which was briefly touched upon at the end of the episode and later on DS9 with Dax.

Deanna's empathy might have given Odan an advantage in his diplomatic negotiations, but aside from that I can't think of anything about her that would have made her a better choice than any of the other TNG characters.

Picard, on the other hand, had plenty of diplomatic experience of his own and might have been a better choice as a temporary host strictly for the negotiations. Picard's previous history with Beverly might hava also added a much deeper and more uncomfortable dimension to Beverly's reaction to Odan's new host. A similar situation came up later with "Attached."

It would certainly have been an interesting scene having Bev and Riker in Ten Forward discussing Troi rather than Bev and Troi discussing Riker. Riker always seemed pretty laid back in his attitudes when Troi went off with other men, I wonder if he'd have been so generous to a relationship with Bev.

Well, Crusher and Odan had sex while Odan was in Riker's body. If it were Troi...it wouldv'e been two women having sex and TNG (or Crusher) wasn't prepared for that.
