Either keep her dead or bring her back and immediately kill her again even deader.
Margaret was clear at Shore Leave 2008 that Before Dishonor was meant to be permanent. The "backdoor" was to mollify concerns of Paramount Licensing, in case the books had to resurrect the character because of a post-Nemesis film that showed Janeway to be alive. Insofar as the people in charge at Pocket Books were concerned at the time, Janeway was dead and she was not coming back.BD's ending was an obvious 'back-door' for bringing Janeway back - it was all but admitted that she's still, in some form or another, alive. It's almost certain that, when the book was written, the plan was to bring the character back after a while.
snakespeare - out of curiosity, what recent TrekLit have you liked?
we've had a few people say they haven't read Trek since she died, and won't again until she returns.
I do not find the recent VOY novels compelling even enough to read them
I have not been impressed with a single one of the replacement characters

Speaks for itself, doesn't it?
As long as she doesn't come back naked though, that's one visualisation I personally could do with out.
...and Harry Kim is all telling this story like "So me and Janeway were crawling through Jeffries tubes practically all day and the whole time her gross mom butt is like 6 inches from my face, and the worst part...oh god haha. The worst part is that I was actually starting to..."
And then BOOM naked Janeway just comes crashing down in the middle of the table, and ALL HELL just breaks loose
How did Brit handle "Andor: Paradigm", which features a tiny cameo by Nog, but every other character is non-canonical?
And that shows how strong TrekLit is these days... That never occurred to me at the time I read it, and didn't realize until you mentioned it right now. The new characters that have been added to the various series feel just as part of the crews as those that originated on the show.
This holds true to the additions to Voyager as well. Kirsten Beyer has hit a homerun with Voyager so far and I can't wait to read what she has for us next year.
I respectfully disagree. It just shows how plugged into TrekLit you are. If a new reader picked up the DS9 novel or the VOY one, they would most likely be disappointed to find that none of the characters they see on screen are there. I'd think that PB would be interested in expanding their readership rather than narrowing it by getting so far afield from the onscreen canon. That is, if their goal is to keep selling more books.![]()

Hi Thrawn, I liked Destiny and Titan, mostly.
The Church of the Living Janeway seems to be people who really aren't fans of the Star Trek universe...

Why should the onscreen material be superceding at this point?
All seven seasons are available as DVD boxed sets. When JJ Abrams' movie came out, stores reported strong sales of all ST home video, so yeah, VOY potentially gains brand new avid fans every day.Is Voyager even on TV anywhere anymore?

Because licensed tie-ins don't direct the parent show.

But there won't in all liklihood be any new VOY shot, ever again (see, prayer does work). So why shouldn't the books evolve as they have, to just keep a few folks wanting it to be what was shot in the 90s? That was my only point.
I hear you. I just don't see it happening. TNG, maybe. VOY? Highly doubtful.
snakespeare, posting three times in a roll is considered spam on this board. Further, what you posted in post 2 and 3:

can be taken as spam. Please don't do it again.
How can you people tolerate misogyny and chide ME for calling them on it? This place... incomprehensible. I will try harder to stay away longer.

I'm sure it's been said, but I doubt that there is a substantially larger number of people coming to the books new from the shows, at this point. How many years have they been off the air? Why should the onscreen material be superceding at this point? Is Voyager even on TV anywhere anymore?
