Should there have been more sex and violence?

FWIW, Star TREK 11 has an "M" rating here, suitable for mature audiences. Next one up from PG -parental guidence.

No. I think the movie was good as it is to attract new fans to the Star Trek franchise. The violence was on a good level, while there was not a lot of sex beside the juvenile under the bed scene.

What I would like for the next Trek movie is a better story, with more drama, mystery/exploration and social commentary. They can do it by still keeping it in the action movie range like Batman Return, The Island, Matrix etc.

Oh yeah that was funny lol. There shoudl have been a "splat" noise. But still that was before the planet was spaghettied.

Books aren't any good for sex, I want to SEE IT. She should have at least did the classic erotic Orion dance we all remember from The Cage.

Too bad there wasn't some aunt-fucking involved, eh?

more sex and violence might have limited the number of people who could see it and so the movie will have lost box office.

Also, I'm no expert, but I'd say it is more grown-up to have sex yourself than to watch it in a public place; and also more mature to acknowledge intrinsic violent tendencies but to instead channel that aggression into benignity and constructive activity (ref: TOS: a taste of armegeddon).

If you think about it, even Nemeshit (Nemesis) had more sex and violence than this movie: there was a sex scene with a reman possessing Riker to have a go on Troi and Shiznon was impaled by a big speak then dragged himself along it to nearly kiss Picard. Of course the problerm with that is there's nothing sex about 55 year old Deanna Troi or Picard on Picard clone kissing.

BRAVO! ENCORE! Could not have said it better myself!

All the build up to this movie said "this ain't yer stinking father's Star Trek" and that it would be the most edgy, racy COOL Star Trek yet. There was suggestion that there would be a LOT more sex and violence then before, but what did we get?

Kirk didn't even have sex! Yes, he got to rub up against that HOT curvy orion girl (and congrats on JJ for casting a "larger woman" in his movie!) but then the lights came on they were both in their underwear! Maybe there's some weird sexual fetish in the future where people have sex still wearing their underwear but I doubt it. This scene could have been so much more. At the VERY LEAST we should have seen the orion's sexy naked breasts on screen. That would have shown that it isn't your father's Star Trek!!

Also when Uhura came in she could have stroked the orion's arm in a sensual way while Kirk watched.

Speaking of Uhura, we should have seen A LOT more of her and Spock. Where was the passion? All we saw was that weird bit on the transporter pad where we hardly even saw what they were doing to each other as the camera was on Kirk's reaction! There should ahve been a sex scene between Spock and Uhura where they talked about Pon Farr and human sex and stuff and that could have given heir relationship more depth as well as being sexy. I think one must have been recorded and cut actually and that's why them being together seem so sudden so hopefully it'll be on the DVD.

As far violence, it was just like tv! Hardly any blood, just lots of punches and phasers and stuff. Six billion Vulcans APPARENTLY died in agonry but we didn't even see one of them! We didn't even see Amanda's body broken on the rock's far below after Chekov fucked up and let her die! Nero's death was disappointing too, we should have seen a close-up of his face as the ship burned and possibly his skin melting.

It seems Trek still isn't ready to grow up and still wants to be suitable for kiddies. :(

You're right-there was that connotation in the ads, but I'm glad it wasn't Saving Private Ryan meets Showgirls.

And if gratuitous violence and sex equate with growing up then the world's most mature people can be found at two places: boxing matches and strip clubs.

It was gritty and thrilling without being distasteful and offensive.

Thankfully, because of the consideration Abram's had for families, parents and children can enjoy the movie together. Star Trek has always been a family program.

There's a lot of nonsense in this post, but this bit jumped out at me. On what planet is Rachel Nichols a "larger woman"?

*sigh* all of you seem to have missed the irony and the intend of the OP.

Chalk it up to the dumb down of trek I suppose,

No, Tentacle, I didn't miss the point, I was making fun of it.

If there was more sex and violence in ST11, it would probably had an MA15+ Restricted classification here.

As I inferred earlier, those who are getting the former IRL, don't need to get their jollies watch pretend sex on the cinema screen. Grownups can usually understand that nookie is happening behind closed doors - we don't need it shoved in our faces.

Re: violence - read and see enough of that in the daily newspaper and evening news, I dont need to see it on the cinema sceen either. I'm bright enough to "get" that "violence" is occurring "off screen".

The movie was fine with what it had. If you want sex, there's a gazillion porn sites on the internetz, take your pick and whack away.

As for violence, don't confuse action with violence, they are not necessarily together.

She certainly looked larger than the Hollywood norm in her bra and panties. I was quite pleasantly surprised and aroused by it. Maybe Uhura is just skinnier than Kate Moss.

If you want sex, go jack off to some pixelated internet porn, no point doing so while normal people want to watch a blockbuster movie.
