I love anime, but don't have the funds to buy it on DVD, and I know there are many who share my problem. So should there be a ANIME network? and more importently would you watch?

Yes I'd watch one, but only because I'm nuts about the stuff. But there shouldn't be one. They always tank.
You shouldn't need a TV with the prevalence of legal online anime, especially if you live in the states. Crunchyroll, Funimation, Hulu, Joost, Youtube, Anime News Network...

They play dirty though, the old bait and hook technique. Some of the content is free other series have only the first episode available for registered users the rest of them you have to buy a "Premium Membership" to watch.

When I said ''Network'' I didn't mean ''Premium'' network. I meant along the lines of a nicktoons network type of deal.
Should there be an All Anime network? Why - so in a few years it can become just another run of the mill network showing anything and everything just like all the other networks that started out genre specific?

If an anime programming block can't be kept alive, I doubt an anime network could be kept alive, full-time.

The real problem is that most people have a mental block that they are unable to get around. Four words really: "animation is for children". For those of us who are enlightened, we say this preconception is utter garbage and point to anime as a model of animation for all ages, genders, and genres but the majority of the civilized world can not accept animation as a serious method of storytelling for some reason. I'd even go as far as to say that animation can even be more versatile than live action for creating certain settings and story concepts.
I know it sucks, and isn't the wisest of business practices when other places aren't charging for it. However, I sort of understand where ADV, the people who run The Anime Network, is coming from since they're still in a bad financial situation after last year when they took a huge hit. They're probabally just trying to stay alive with that since that policy was only recently instated. They had their Japanese partner company pull out on them and because of this lost the rights to distribute about 2/3 of their inventory. It was pretty bad.
The industry is shrinking (not that it was all that large anyway) because of the economy. We lost Geneon in 2007 and now Central Park Media earlier this year.
Anime is viewed as a specialty product that doesn't draw as much audience as other stuff, and specialty products are the first thing to be slashed when companies are hurting. This is why Best Buys and other companies have either cut anime sales altogether or reduced the amount of series they carry to only the top sellers. The only physical store around here that actually has anything anime is my Best Buy. I have to do most of my shopping online because they don't always have what I want anymore. The internet and places like Rightstuf are the only refuge for actually buying the stuff now. It's not easy being a collector of the medium.
Streaming and downloading is an option, but I much prefer physical objects instead.

Yeah, its always nice having the physical product. The problem though is sometimes it feels as if the anime (and especially the manga) companies have zero respect for their customers. I was burned pretty badly when ADV and Geneon took their hits last year. Their secretiveness about everything that happened made it even worse, so its to the point where I dont even feel like buying anime anymore.
I used to love collecting the discs and getting the art boxes but now that my Kannon box sits on my shelf with a disc missing and due to my year long wait for Higurashi and Black Laggon, they essentialy lost a very eager customer. The only things Ive picked up recently are the Clannad sets and Ill probably get the new Rebuild of Eva blu-ray. Thats about it.

With a lot of your intended market is simply downloading anime for free, it's little wonder why the industry is hurting, IMO.
Precisely why sites are now streaming the stuff legally for free though. It means fans don't have to pirate as often and can still watch a current series only days after the episodes are broadcast, sometimes the same day. I don't really see the tactic boosting sales of DVDs though, but more of a tactic to reduce pirating.
Same here, their over-secretiveness pissed me off too. I also rarely ever collect a series singly anymore unless I really have to have it. I now just wait for the sets which is convenient now since a lot of companies have been releasing their series in sets, ala Clannad. Although I had no trouble filling my Kanon box. Which volume do you need? I'm guessing 4 or 5 after a little research. 1,2,3 and 6 can be had at rightstuf.com, 4 can be had reasonably from a 3rd party seller on Amazon marketplace. 5 is the tricky one you can get it from amazon marketplace like 4 but it's ridiculously overpriced (the seller seems legit though).

Volume 6. Theres places online where I can get it but I hate buying stuff online. Luckily for me, anime is still relatively easy to purchase in stores in NYC, but that god damn kannon 6 is a slippery bastard that I cant seem to track down. Ill probably cave in eventualy and just get it on ebay or something
