Should the uniforms include a jacket? If so, what color(s)

They may have supposed to have been green, but they got gold instead, and that's what is canon.

Well, since this is a ;)REBOOT ;), canon goes out the window - so they should use the "intended" green color.

Re: Should the uniforms include a jacket? If so, what color

There were some fan sketches posted a while back featuring Matt Damon as Kirk and Adrien Brody as Spock that had TOS style trousers and boots combined with a heavier jacket in the TOS colors. I think that would work really well, myself.

But gold looks better. :p

BZZZZZZZ. Wrong answer.

Anyway, isn't it a little iffy to put so much stock in "canon" when production variances cause what's seen on screen be inconsistent? To me, that makes the argument of "what's on screen" as the sole definition of canon to be weak.

Here's just a beginning of such a list . . .

1. Enterprise appears white, or blue, or green at times (but never gold ;))

2. Production and pilot version of ship in episodes.

3. Face scratches and hair parting being flipped.

4. Missing insignia.

5. Curly headed Spock in fight scenes.

6. "No word from Mr. SOLO , sir"

Okay, time to bring out the heavy firepower...

I have more posts, therefore my opinion is more correct! :D

Sigh. You win.

Re: Should the uniforms include a jacket? If so, what color

My vote is for a fitted jacket with department colors on grey over a hybrid of the 'The Cage' and the 'TOS' uniforms.

I've been pimping variant forms of this design about as long as I've been on the forum, most of you have probably seen it.

^ Needs more color ! ^

Grey is too, how shall I put this....

BLAND !

Not super bright colors like on TOS, but muted, but not to the point that they look like they did in TMP, that's too muted to the point where it becomes BLAND again.

Tan, I can deal with as that's how the Uni's in "The Cage" were colored, and that is cononish ;)

Command will be Gold. The whole 'Green' thing is just some fan triva thing that no one knows or cares about.

Sad.

Ok then. Obviously I was stating my opinion and backing it up with a little dose of reality. No one aside from a hard-core fan even knows about the little green-triva thing. EVERYONE who SAW the show SAW GOLD. Therefore, if they want to make it true to the show, they will make them gold. Pretty simple, no?

You can spout all the "little trivia" tripe you wish, but eyewitness accounts of those who designed GREEN, wore GREEN and others who saw GREEN on the set don't count for squat, I suppose??

It has been well documented on this and other boards which deal with the green/gold controversy that I have no desire to hear all that crap again. The color was an avacado/pea green, which looked yellow due to production variances, not to mention how the color was changed by how an individual's TV set's color was adjusted.

So you like yellow, I like green. Fine. I can accept your opinion without being ignorant about it.

Re: Should the uniforms include a jacket? If so, what color

You could always go with the fact that Sisko says that command wore gold in the 23rd Century as an indication that gold is what counts. Sure they might have intended it to be green, but no one saw green on their TV and the average person is either going to be confused or upset if they saw green where it should be gold (this is more of an argument if they used the original uniforms, which I don't expect them to).

Nope. All that matters is what ended up on screen. On the SHOW. What happen behind the scenes is irrelevant.

Yes, I'd put more color in there, but I want them to look like a logical "prevolution" to the uniforms in 'The Cage' which had a medium charcoal colored field jacket.

It's worth noting that the Command outfits often show as greenish on the Remastered episodes:

It is worth noting and, maybe someday in the future, people might recognize them as green. But, even then, it's still a greenish-goldish color, it's not clearly one or the other.

The color of the shirts in your avatar is about right -- certainly similar to what I saw in a third season shirt from the series on display in a museum.

I always thought they should have gone with a more olive color in the first place; some of the Gold Key comics colored the shirts more that color and it looked better to me than gold. Kirk's wraparound is the same basic color. Too bad the film didn't come out a couple of years ago when jewel tones were more popular than they are now -- Star Trek would have looked quite hip in a retro way. Which brings me to another point . . .

The movie will probably hope to pull in the Millenials, who if you follow some of the research about tastes and trends, love retro stuff, just updated a bit. I'm in the previous generation but understand the retro thing, as it's been a part of my aesthetic all these years. What looks hopelessly tired to many Baby Boomers and Gen-Xers might in fact look rather stylish and fresh to those in younger generation, whose modified crew cuts and straight-hair bobs are a redux of 1960s styles anyway.

As far as the jacket is concerned, dark gray landing party jackets that mimic those of The Cage make sense; there's also that "dress jacket" worn by the starship officer on the Orion planet in Pike's memory . . . having standard or dress uniform jackets along those lines, which black pants, makes sense since we've already seen something of that in the series, with a ribbed turtleneck underneath (which I always thought were similar to the uniform tunics of the majority of the TOS movies).

To you.

and probably to the other 99% of people who will go see the film.

Only the 1% of the hardcore TOS purists will get their panties in a tight wad over the color of the uniforms. The rest is hardly likely to give a high flying f&ck.
