Should it have gotten an extra season or two?

My understanding was that the ratings weren't there for an eight season?

I'd say it was more cast contracts being up (they all expired after season 6 and signed on for one more season except for Terry Farrell) and everyone feeling like seven years was enough.

I think creatively it could have easily gone on for another season although two might have been pushing it.

Unlike TNG, DS9 kept getting better. I believe the show could have survived. Showing the rebuilding of the station and area after the War. I also would have liked them to get back to the Bajoran storyline.

It would have been interesting if DS9 did at least one more season on the aftermath of the war and the recovering.

I don't think so. I could tell that by Season Seven, the quality of the show's writing was beginning to decline a bit . . . more.

I don't think it needed another season, but it would have been nice to have gotten some more resolution to the war. I know I'm not the only person who thinks they should have maybe wrapped up the Dominion War with a few more episodes to go in the series. Give it a little time to sink in, see some of the aftermath/celebration/repercussions before moving on to the Sisko climax and wrapping up of the individual storylines. All of those things felt unnecessarily rushed. They could have done all of that without another season.

If they hadn't wasted precious last season episodes on Ezri or Vic Fontaine, they could have tied up the Dominion War/subplots and character arcs more satisfyingly.

Not really. DS9 became a show about the dominion war, a show after would have felt unnessecary. I do think they had a major movie in them though, the crew getting Sisko back or something like that.

I'm sure they could have thrown in some fluff about post war cardassia and whatnot in that movie.
