Should I join a dating service?

Thought I'd replied about talking to the girl in the supermarket, but I guess I forgot to hit the post quick reply button again... :alienblush:

Emher, doubleohfive is correct about maybe she's being nice because she's working and you're a good customer. So start your conversation with telling her about how you like that she's always pleasant and happy (the other things you said to us when you first mentioned her) - that definitely isn't creepy, and if you then get the sense that she's just being polite all you've done is said some nice things to someone about their work. But it starts the conversation so she can chat to you or you can build on it next time you're in.

Good luck :)

Asking workers in supermarkets out is more creepy than anything else.

Bullshit. When I was a young man, I did that all the time. Got laughed at alot, but hey.....

No pain, no gain, you know? If you want to ask someone out, you can't hope they read the signals (if they exist), you have to do something about it, and if they laugh, so much the better.

Exactly.:bolian:

But, I often got the feeling that they were laughing AT me as opposed to WITH me, but like I said, what the hell, you gotta at least try.

No, asking a worker at a super market is NOT inherently creepy. You just have to respect that they're at work and not interfere with them performing their jobs. And, if they decline, leave them alone immediately. It's the approach that determines whether it's creepy or not, not the fact that it is in a super market.

Emher is full of tact. I have no worries.

^Yeah that tact have actually in hindsight stopped me from some potentially meaningless sexual relationships

Well saw her again today, but decided not to say anything since 1) she was in a regular cashier station and I was using the quick checkout, and 2) I wasn't really at my best today. My beard needs a trim, I've got some rather unfashionable shorts and a grey tee on, and it's fucking warm outisde so I'm all sweaty. If I'm going to do this, I'm gonna do it right.

If you're going to do it right, then you've got to be prepared for every occassion that you go over to that store. You should've spiffed up a bit before you went. Nothing overboard, it's just a super market. :)

We weren't planning on going to the store today, just happened that way. I usually dress better then I did today, and I have some nice stuff that's relaxed but goodlooking.

Easy solution: look your best any time you leave your house. Unless you're going to paint a garage, or do yard work or something like that, there's really no excuse not to. I'm not saying don a tux every morning, I'm just saying take care of yourself. You don't have to trim the beard every day ("Never trust a man who shaves on a day he doesn't have to," my best friend's dad used to tell us.) but at least throw on some decent clothing if you're going out. You never know who you'll meet or see.

Yes, that was oddly paternal. I'd have expected Holdfast to respond to that Post like it was a mating call. :rommie:

Has anyone here used Facebook as a dating service? I keep getting people that I have never heard of "friending" me and I am wondering if they are.

(I accepted a friend request like this from someone two days ago because I thought he was hot. Normally I would never do that but I couldn't resist! He is a trekkie and a bit silly so I was immediately interested. :bolian:)

I once got a Friend request from a woman, and accepted it on the assumption that she was somebody I knew on a message board. Turns out she was Russian or something and looking to move to the US. :rommie: Now I only accept Friend requests if I'm sure I know who the person is.

Normally I don't but like I said I couldn't help myself. Gay geeks are hard to find. (I also looked through his posts and pictures first to be sure he wasn't a weirdo.)

And I wonder if he posts here? He was at Comic Con yesterday and plays flag football. Anyone?
