They are. TOS was an action-oriented scifi adventure series from the 1960s. The Reboot movies are action-oriented scifi adventure films from the 21st century that invoke the same characters and themes of the 60s series, some of the movies based on that series, and very little else.It seems like those two things aren't compatible.
If anything, it would be incompatible with you being, say, a Voyager fan.
Sure they were. Just in a very subtle, meaningful way that was intrinsic to the characters and not in a preachy, pretentious way that required one of the characters to make a long impassioned speech about the issues. The concept that I liked about the new ones is that they were entertaining and thrilling. Sure, they weren't philosophical.
That's the main thing I liked about the reboot movies. They were about the CHARACTERS, not about the ships, not about the politics, not really even about the universe. They were about a group of really brave people having crazy adventures in space, who they are, and what they do. Just like TOS.
I dunno, man, I still get a chill watching Kruge stalk the Enterprise in "Search for Spock."The only really thrilling movie from the original universe is Star Trek: First Contact.
