All I have to say is to the nay-sayers that swore it would never make it... :P It made it suckers! So eat your words!

They don't post here anymore, most likely due to massive embarrassment.

We have to go back to the old threads and post all their names and predictions...what fun!!!

Not sure why most people in here are thinking STXII is a lock to be even bigger than this one. I wouldn't say thats true at all. I certainly hope it is, but I'm not certain.

Aren't you the person who said Trek XI's box office take was disappointing?

Not at all. I was pessimistic in the beginning about how much it would make, but its take has been extremely impressive.

I do that on my own every once in a while...which sounds a lot filthier than it actually is now that I think about it.

WHAT WENT WRONG?!?!

This thing needs to make at least $300 million to break even, so even a $100 million gross qualifies as a bomb.

Meanwhile, in that same thread...

What's your weekend prediction, Squiggy?
About 80.
First weekend with Thursday showings: $79,204,289

I win at internets!

That's actually pretty good predictions. So whats your prediction for the Cameron film later this year? Thats the one I can't wait to see.

Rob

Awesome. Here's another gem from the same thread:

With as someone said "universally good reviews" how can we be certain that moviegoers aren't setting themselves up for disappointment and how might this effect long term ticket sales?

I think we need a chart showing your prediction accuracy.

Uh-oh. Don't get him started... :p

Being an African Prince, I will be awarding your prize. I am having some difficulties with my funds though, so I will require your name, bank account number, and social security number....
They stole that idea from Hogan's Heroes, in the episode, "The Prince from the Phone Company," with Ivan Dixon as Kinchloe.

"A POW masquerades as an African prince and asks the Germans for money to pay for a submarine."

EDIT:  Squiggy!

Congratulations to Star Trek for outdoing the expectations of the naysayers so profoundly!

The box office prediction thread is also full of 'em

Opening day/night will be the ONLY time this film makes any money of any respect. Otherwise, it'll make Paul Blart look like Dark Knight.

Nobody of any number is gonna go see this thing. Opening day/night, all the Trek fans will be lined up, clinging to the hope that somehow they'll be able to save this thing, but otherwise, it'll be a royal floppa-roppa.
$100 million at US box office.

$40m-$50m in all other territories combined.

If the film breaks even after marketing and all other costs, I'll eat my shorts.
who went on to say in a subsequent post...
Optimistically, I predict a $50-60m max opening weekend and an $75m first week, after which receipts will fall off sharply. Say a final $85m US, and with an optimistic 65% of $85m rest of the world gross, you're looking at about $140m worldwide.

Spectaular news.

I thought if the film did $130m in the U.S. it should be considered a success.

I hope "The Hangover" doesn't catch it. It is less than $50 million away at this point.

If it continues to stay a little ahead of Wedding Crashers pace, it could pass Trek. It depends on how Bruno affects it this weekend.

Squiggy must by a psychic and can obviously predict the future.

So squiggy... wanna pm me the winning lotto numbers?
